The detractors and angry gamers online will have you believe 2024 has been a bad year for gaming. Dear reader, they are wrong! In this article, we’re taking a look at some of the best VR and AR games that have graced our headsets this year.

Let’s address the elephant in the room first. Yes, the last couple of years have been incredibly difficult for the overall gaming industry. We’ve seen countless legendary studios disappear forever, and even more layoffs. There’s also been a few misses with the likes of Concord and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. That being said, 2024 has also gifted us Thank Goodness You’re Here, Satisfactory’s exit from early access, and even latecomer Indiana Jones and the Great Circle! But we’re here to talk 2024’s best VR games… drumroll, please.

Batman: Arkham Shadow

Step into the cowl of the Dark Knight like never before. Winner of best VR/AR game at the Game Awards 2024, Arkham Shadow is a masterpiece that will leave you a sweaty mess after just a few minutes of gameplay and the perfect choice to kick off our list. This Meta Quest 3 exclusive entry into our top VR games of 2024 list builds on the iconic Arkham series, delivering an immersive Gotham City experience. From scaling skyscrapers to tracking clues in the Batcave, every moment makes you feel like the world’s moodiest detective.

Metro Awakening

Nominee for best VR/AR game at this year’s Game Awards, Metro Awakening, in our humble opinion, is one of the best games in the franchise so far. Returning to the hauntingly beautiful yet treacherous tunnels of Russia’s post-apocalyptic Metro, this VR entry into the series introduces a new level of terrifying immersion. Placing you squarely in Metro’s signature mix of survival horror and gripping storytelling, you’ll traverse dark, claustrophobic corridors, scavenge for resources, and confront mutated horrors with weapons that feel genuinely lifelike in your hands.

Toy Trains

A break away from the AAA dark, gritty universes of Metro and Batman, Toy Trains earns its place on this list with cosy vibes and nostalgia-laced gameplay. Tasked with building intricate railways and helping the adorable Railies with their problems, this VR puzzler combines creativity with cosy relaxation. There’s no score or timers, just a charming sandbox to unwind and flex your imagination. If this one sounds like your kind of jam, make sure to check out our full review.

Polish-based games studio Something Random has come out swinging with their first title, Toy Trains.

Blade and Sorcery Full Release

After years of early access updates, Blade and Sorcery has finally hit full release in 2024, cementing itself as the ultimate VR sandbox for medieval combat enthusiasts. The physics-driven melee system is more polished than ever, with new weapons, expanded magic abilities, and even deeper modding support. Whether you’re wielding a claymore, hurling fireballs, or dabbling in stealth, every encounter feels dynamic and immersive. With its open-ended gameplay and unrivalled combat mechanics, Blade and Sorcery continues to set the standard for VR action games.

Brazen Blaze

Brazen Blaze is a VR brawler that brings high-speed 3v3 combat with a healthy dose of chaos. Players pick from a variety of Runners, each with unique weapons and fighting styles, to engage in intense, fast-paced rounds lasting just 5 to 10 minutes. The game really kicks into gear with Ultimate powers that can shift the tide of battle in spectacular ways. Whether you’re dodging lasers or using devastating finishers, Brazen Blaze is perfect for anyone craving action-packed VR combat.

Get ready to strap in and experience the adrenaline-fueled action of “Brazen Blaze,” This 3v3 Smack and Shoot VR action game is all about close-quarter melee combat and unbridled chaos!
