It has already been a strong start for cases this year, and now Kolink is throwing their hat in the ring. Adding to their flagship Observatory Z range, we have two new cases for you today. The Observatory Z aRGB and the Observatory Z Mesh aRGB. Both mid-tower cases support a vast array of hardware and innovations, such as vertical GPU mounting. Just feast your eyes on these beauts!
Common Features
As they are both additions to the same line-up, the Observatory Z aRGB and Observatory Z Mesh aRGB share many similar features. These sleek and stylish cases can accommodate up to E-ATX motherboards, with support from seven horizontal expansion slots for hardware. There are an additional three upright expansion slots that can be used with the included bracket for vertically mounting your GPU. With amazing clearance for graphics cards up to 380mm long, these cases can support most models currently available. Plus, there is also an anti-sag L-bracket to provide extra support for longer and heavier GPUs. All your bases are covered.
There are four integrated fans across the chassis, with three mounted to the front panel and the fourth situated on the rear. There is, however, plenty of scope for alternative cooling configurations that can facilitate some epic custom water cooling. For your convenience, here is a quick breakdown of what each panel can support:
Position | Options |
---|---|
Front Panel | 3 x 120mm or 3 x 140mm or 2 x 200mm fans 1 x 420mm / 360mm / 280mm / 240mm radiator |
Top Panel | 3 x 120mm or 2 x 140mm fans 1 x 360mm / 280mm / 240mm radiator |
Rear Panel | 1 x 120mm or 140mm fan 1 x 120mm / 140mm radiator |
CPU Cooler Clearance | 180mm |
With such comprehensive mounting options, you have great flexibility when it comes to the thermal solution. Do be sure to show off your custom loops @OverclockersUK!
Storage, Power Supplies, and I/O Panels
Perfect for holding your extensive gaming library or media files, the Observatory Z cases can host an impressive mix of SSDs and HDDs. Upon the motherboard backplate, there is accommodation for either three 2.5” SSDs or two 3.5” HDDs. Additionally, there is a drive cage in the PSU shroud that holds either two SSDs or two HDDs. The PSU shroud can be easily accessed from the rear of the case, making installation for this hardware incredibly easy.
Power supplies up to 200mm long will fit nicely within this shroud whilst still leaving space for the drive cage. Not only that, this drive cage can be slid across according to the needs of your PSU or any water-cooling hardware. It’s all about those options with the Observatory Z range.
For connectivity, the I/O panel is well equipped with a myriad of USB ports, including 3.2 Gen 2 and 3.0. This panel is situated above a dedicated cable management section that is hidden from the main chassis chamber, keeping your interior tidy. With 30mm of space and Velcro ties, your cables can be neatly organised behind the partition, allowing you to curate the main chamber into a showcase of all your high-end hardware.
Unique to the Z RGB
For its front panel, the Observatory Z aRGB has a pane of tempered glass to perfectly showcase the three Kolink Umbra Void fans mounted there. Unless you take full advantage of the support for larger fans, then it is a window to your statement PC.
Unique to the Z Mesh RGB
With the Observatory Z Mesh aRGB, it is all about that superior airflow. Rather than a tempered glass panel, the front is mesh to work in tandem with the elevated side ventilation. RGB lighting from your fans still shines through for an ethereal glow.
Kolink Umbra Void 120mm Fans
The four integrated fans on these chassis are Kolink Umbra Void 120mm fans. With their nine curved blades and hydraulic bearing, they perform effectively and reliably. Utilising PWM technology, speeds adjust according to workload, meaning they only operate when necessary. Fan speeds go up to 1500RPM and produce 19.6dB(A) noise levels, making them whisper-quiet at full operation.
Each fan has 12 aRGB LEDs circling the frame, with an infinity mirror effect on the central hub. Already dazzling, the lighting can be configured in one of two ways. First, the included Kolink Umbra aRGB Controller can be used, with its downloadable software. Alternatively, the fans can be connected to the motherboard via a 3-pin 5V header and controlled utilising compatible software. Light up your chassis in style!
