What is AMD AM5?  

AMD AM5 is the latest CPU socket, first introduced with the AMD Ryzen 7000 Series. Expanding on the previous AM4 socket, AM5 boasts several improvements including compatibility with DDR5 RAM, PCIe 5.0 support for both NVMe and GPUs, along with Wi-Fi 6E. All of which make AM5 the ultimate upgrade for gamers and content creators alike.  

What CPUs Support AM5? 

Currently both the AMD Ryzen 7000 and 8000 Series CPUs feature support for the AM5 socket.

Support Until 2027 – What Does This Mean? 

AMD recently announced at Computex 2024 that the AM5 socket will be supported until 2027. This means we can expect to see a similar pattern to that of AM4, with several future CPU generations featuring compatibility with AM5. 

This long-term support is perfect since it means you won’t need to worry about new releases hitting the market just as you make the jump to AM5, saving you a few extra pennies when it comes to upgrading your hardware.
