Do you want to get more FPS and realistic graphics in your favourite games? If so, look no further, as the team of PC experts at Overclockers UK is here to tell you everything you need to know about AMD’s FSR 2.0 (FidelityFX Super Resolution) so you, too, can unlock immersive graphics.
What is FSR?
FSR, or FidelityFX Super Resolution, is a super sampling upscaling technology produced by AMD.
Available on both Radeon and GeForce graphics cards, FSR has been expertly engineered to boost framerates and image rendering to ensure high-quality, stunning resolutions in all your favourite AAA titles.
The recent FSR 2.0 upgrade has been designed to enhance framerates one step further in a variety of different games and, now, gaming platforms.
How does FSR Work?
AMD’s FSR is designed to reduce the strain and power on your GPU, to ensure you get the best gaming performance. FSR acts as a ‘spatial upscaler’, of your game’s resolution. A spatial upscaler only uses the current frame to upscale the images. To ensure the image quality doesn’t suffer, FSR features an intelligent image resharpening tool
The 2.0 update, now includes a ‘temporal upscaler’ which utilises previous information from frames and images that have already been rendered. Since more information is available, FSR 2.0 results in more efficient upscaling and higher quality images and resolutions compared to the previous FSR 1.0 generation.
FSR vs DLSS
Whilst AMD’s FSR is not intended to be a direct counterpart to NVIDIA’s DLSS, the main difference between the two is that DLSS utilises dedicated tensor cores and an intelligent AI. Both of which deliver stunning image rendering and realistic graphics.
However, unlike DLSS, FSR is open source and is available on both Radeon and GeForce GPUs.
What Games Support FSR?
Some of the games that support FSR include:
- Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
- Deathloop
- Far Cry 6
- God of War
- Hitman 3
- Ghostwire: Tokyo
- Resident Evil Village
- Godfall
If you want a taster of how FSR can look in games, like God of War, compared to DLSS, take a look at the video down below!
The list of games supported will only get bigger as more studios have announced that they are working with FSR. Some of the game studios include:
- Arkane Lyon
- CD Projekt Red

And many more! We for one, hope that Final Fantasy 16, Cyberpunk 2077, and the new Witcher Game are all compatible with FSR 2.0.
Console Support
AMD has confirmed that the XBOX Series X / Swill support FSR 2.0 as it already utilises RDNA 2.0 architecture. It’s not yet been confirmed if the PlayStation 5 console is compatible with FSR 2.0, but we hope to hear some news soon!
