AMD FSR has received a hefty upgrade! Now called, AMD FSR 3.0, this dedicated upscaling technology has been updated to deliver you maximum gaming performance and huge improvements in frame rates.
If you’re looking to take advantage of this new and improved cutting-edge tech, then we’ve compiled everything you need to know, including the basics of AMD FSR 3.0, all the included features, along with the compatible graphics cards and games.
AMD FSR 3.0
AMD FSR 3.0 is the latest generation of AMD’s FidelityFX Super Resolution upscaling technology. As the counterpart to NVIDIA’s AI DLSS 3.0, FSR 3.0 boasts huge improvements to your games by unlocking immersive visuals and increased frame rates.
This is achieved thanks to the introduction of AMD Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF). This powerful technology utilises AI-rendered images to deliver up to twice the frame rates with reduced latency, even in demanding AAA titles or resolutions of up to 4K. For example, thanks to AFMF, on the latest AMD Radeon RX 7900XTX with active Ray Tracing turned on, the FPS was successfully increased from 53 to an incredible 175 in 4K whilst playing Forspoken.
Native AA Mode:
FSR 3.0 also features upscaling quality modes, including ‘Quality’ and ‘Performance’ which you can toggle between to perfectly configure the upscaling quality to performance to suit your individual preferences. The latest addition to these modes is ‘Native AA’.
‘Native AA’ stands for Native Anti-Aliasing. This allows you to fully utilise FSR 3.0 without enabling any upscaling. Rather than focusing on resolution, with ‘Native AA’ you can take advantage of high-quality anti-aliasing and sharp images, for more vivid and immersive gaming.
AMD Anti-Lag+
In addition to AMD Fluid Motion Frames, FSR 3.0 also features support for Anti-Lag+. AMD Anti-Lag+ is tied to RDNA 3 architecture and has been designed to synchronise both the CPU and GPU workloads to reduce latency whilst in-game.
AMD Anti-Lag+ isn’t tied to FSR 3.0, meaning you can take advantage of Anti-Lag+ without having to enable FidelityFX Super Resolution. With an AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series GPU, you can simply turn Anti-Lag+ on or off.
Which AMD Graphics Cards are Compatible with FSR 3.0?
AMD FSR 3.0 is compatible with both AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards. However, AMD’s hardware recommendations differ depending on whether you are using upscaling only or upscaling with frame generation.
