AMD Radeon Uncovered is back!
This time we’re shining the light on AMD FreeSync and how this intelligent technology can notably help to enhance your gaming performance and immersion.
What is AMD FreeSync?
FreeSync is AMD’s intelligent adaptive sync technology which enables your GPU or APU to fully control your monitor’s refresh rate. There are three versions available, each one expanding on the features included in the previous model.
AMD FreeSync
FreeSync delivers an immersive tear-free experience, facilitating smooth gameplay and video playback. Especially when paired with an AMD Radeon graphics card and HDMI/DisplayPort.
AMD FreeSync Premium
FreeSync Premium expands on the basics of FreeSync to unlock responsive, smooth, and stutter-free visuals which are sure to prove advantageous in the heat of battle.
AMD FreeSync Premium Pro
Premium Pro takes things to the next level by heightening image quality for HDR to facilitate ultra-realistic graphics and silky-smooth playback. Everything you need to immerse yourself in the latest blockbuster hit or AAA exclusive.
What Hardware Do You Need for AMD FreeSync?
You can utilise AMD FreeSync with a monitor, laptop, and even a TV. To do this, you’ll need to ensure that your device is compatible with the following requirements.
What’s more, you’ll also need a compatible FreeSync GPU or APU. This includes all the Radeon RX 2000 Series or above and NVIDIA GeForce 10 Series or higher (DisplayPort connectivity only).
If you’re unsure whether your NVIDIA GPU is compatible with AMD FreeSync, we’ve covered everything you need to know in our blog post.
How Does AMD FreeSync Improve Your Gaming?
By harnessing HDMI Variable Refresh Rate or DisplayPort Adaptive-Sync, AMD FreeSync delivers dynamic refresh rates to reduce screen tearing, display stutter, and input latency. As a result, you can enjoy incredible lifelike visuals with virtually no interruptions to your immersion.
In synchronising your refresh rate with your GPU’s FPS, you also won’t need to worry about any unexpected drops in frames. AMD FreeSync intelligently monitors your FPS to make sure it doesn’t dip below your refresh rate. If it does, FreeSync automatically stops working to ensure you continue to enjoy an optimised performance.
