With recent leaks and a launch on the horizon, our news feed has been full of the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU.
Expected to be released on November 7th, we’ve got a cheeky little breakdown of all the rumours surrounding the first X3D CPU of the AMD Ryzen 9000 Series. Of course, it should be noted that this information should be taken with a pinch of salt. Until the CPU officially launches, we cannot confirm the hot goss.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 411
It has already been speculated that the 9000X3D CPUs will share the same spec as the 7000X3D processors, and these leaks seem to confirm that. As such, it is likely the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D will have eight cores, sixteen threads, and a 120W TDP. This will be paired with Zen 5 architecture and support for DDR5 and PCIe 5.0.
Specification | AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D |
---|---|
Architecture | Zen 5 |
Cores | 8 |
Threads | 16 |
Base Clock | 4.7GHz |
Boost Clock | 5.2GHz |
Cache | 32+64MB L3 3D V-Cache |
Memory | DDR5 |
PCIe | 5.0 |
So why upgrade if it’s the same?
There are a few innovations to the 3D V-Cache design that will improve performance over its 7000 Series predecessor. This starts with how the cache is placed on the hardware. In a Forbes article detailing the rumoured spec, it is suggested that the extra L3 cache will be placed below the CCD. The previous X3D CPUs have the L3 cache on top of the CCDs, which house the cores. As a result, the cores are no longer in direct contact with heat spreaders which has led to some thermal bottlenecking. The new position should alleviate this issue, enabling the CPU to handle higher frequencies and voltages.

Yeah, But Can it Overclock?
“Higher frequencies and voltages” suggest that overclocking will be possible for the first time on X3D models. The Geizhals listing notes that the 7 9800X3D has a free multiplier, which once again seems to confirm that overclocking is supported. Plus, those specs do list a tasty 5.2GHz boost speed!
To Be Confirmed
Once again, we cannot say for certain what the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D specifications will be until AMD officially launches the processor early next month.
