Swear fealty to the Fae Lords, master powerful blessings, and fight to restore Avalon in this 1-4 player co-op action rogue-like.

Camelot has fallen, its legendary knights warped by darkness, and only the Soulforged can stand against the corruption. In SWORN, a gripping co-op action rogue-like, you’ll wield powerful abilities, experiment with thousands of unique builds, and challenge Arthur himself. Fight solo or alongside friends, as you swear fealty to Titania, Oberon, and other Fae Lords, unlocking over 200 game-changing blessings.

Confession time – I hadn’t heard about SWORN until it landed on my desk. I consider myself a rogue-like novice, with far too many hours into Hades (and have still not completed it – yes, I am bad), but that was the full extent of my time in the genre. Having said that, when I see Team17 on a game, I’m instantly sold that the game will be one I can put a lot of time and love into.

SWORN sees you become a Soulforged as you battle your way across the ruined lands of Camelot to take on a corrupted King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table. Growing up, Arthur was always the hero in every tale, so a take that sees him become the villain was extremely cool and fresh. The game also features plenty of nods to the tales of old, including characters like Merlin and Guinevere, and a sword in the stone powerup.

Hades, is That You?

It’s hard to ignore the similarities in the game to the critically acclaimed Hades, but that should be considered exactly what it is: music to the ears. The gameplay is fantastic, smooth, and all-around super polished. There is a great rotation of mob types that keep even the early levels feeling fresh each time, which when you die a lot is a blessing. (It happened to a friend, ok?) The artwork is also beautiful, with environments, characters, and weapons looking stunning. There’s plenty of customisation which has come to be expected in rogue-likes. With different character types, weapons, and spells for each progression tree, whether you’re a sword-wielding knight or spell-casting mage, SWORN really does cater to all playstyles.

My favourite part of the game, by far, was the music. SWORN has periods of great atmospheric music fitting of the medieval period, and then suddenly BOOM, the hardest DOOM-esque guitar riffs start while fighting bosses. As someone who loves both medieval folk music and metal music, I was hooked. Music can make or break a game in my mind, either adding to my engagement or taking me out of the world entirely. SWORN is certainly the former.

SWORN TL;DR

For both rogue-like veterans and new entries to the genre, SWORN is a fantastic game to try. It offers great progression and gameplay options, meaning you could play for hours and hours to truly get your money’s worth. It’s also challenging enough that even the most tested players will still enjoy it. I know for a fact I will be losing a lot of my time over the next few days playing this game and trying different characters, weapons, and builds!
