BattleBit Remastered The FPS We Deserve

After years and years of waiting, someone has finally released a good military FPS, but it wasn’t Activision or EA.

After just ten minutes of playing BattleBit Remastered, you could be forgiven for thinking you’d somehow been transported into a different timeline’s Battlefield 4. Overnight success BattleBit Remastered is packed with the intense mayhem we’ve been missing since the good old days of Battlefield, and with colossal scale 127 vs 127 matches, there’s a lot to love.

Gameplay

Six years in the making, BattleBit’s small team have seemingly made a better military FPS than we’ve seen in almost a decade. Yes, it lacks some of the shiny features of modern AAA FPS titles. However, with a huge player base of over 70,000 active players alongside the screams of your enemy’s deaths and some dude blasting Slavic hard bass down the mic of your Humvee convoy, a BattleBit match is peak 2013 nostalgia.

For a game in Steam Early Access, BattleBit Remastered has plenty to offer. As the devs put it, you can choose your size with 32 vs 32, 64 vs 64 or an insane 127 vs 127 game mode.

Communication is Key

It really is! Somehow the BattleBit devs have managed to make a game where your squad mates actually talk to you. What’s more, they’re not just spamming music. Somewhere in between all the memes, there’s some decent squad gameplay in here.

Guns, Class, and Vehicles

Just as you would expect, BattleBit is jam-packed with all three. In different game modes, you’ll be able to take advantage of tanks, helicopters, transports, and even boats for vehicular combat. For weaponry you have a pretty large selection with more than 45 to choose from and extensive customisation. Want to upgrade your gun with modifications? Unlike some FPS games, if you like a gun, BattleBit tells you exactly what level or how many kills you’ll need to be to unlock parts for it. (What a complex solution, if only Call of Duty could have thought of it.) Of course, Battlebit Remastered has the standard FPS classes. Take on special equipment and choose to play as an Assault, Medic, Engineer, Support, or Recon role.

BattleBit Remastered only has one real problem. After a little while, you’ll be wondering why EA and Activision keep getting the FPS formula so wrong.

TLDR

If you loved the insane chaos of the last good Battlefield games, namely 3 and 4, then you will 100% enjoy this game. From the music being blasted down terrible-sounding microphones to your compatriots screaming for a medic like they’re actually dying, BattleBit Remastered is the most excited I’ve been about an FPS in years.
