Did you know that April 26th marks Alien Day?
When written in the American style, today’s date is 4/26. Astute Alien fans might see where I’m going with this. In the Alien franchise, the moon Acheron was identified as LV-426. You know the one. Where the derelict from the first film was found, explored by the crew of the USCSS Nostromo, and where all those Xenomorph eggs were found. All in all, a fitting date to dedicate to the iconic sci-fi saga. To celebrate, and scare ourselves silly, we’re taking a look at some of the best Alien games to play on PC!
Alien Isolation
Alien Isolation has it all. Ties to Ellen Ripley? Check, you play as her daughter, Amanda. An atmosphere of constant dread and peril? Oh yes. Iconic recreation of H.R. Giger’s Xenomorph? You betcha.
Amanda Ripley works for Weyland-Yutani, some fifteen years after her mother never returned. Rumours of the Nostromo’s flight recorder turning up drives Amanda to finally learn what happened. But when she and her crew arrive at Sevastopol, they find the same menace that plagued the Nostromo all those years ago. This survival horror game puts you in a desperate battle to uncover the truth of what happened to Ellen Ripley, whilst hiding from the terrifying Xenomorphs.
Alien Isolation provides an immersive world to explore, with a rich cast and story to experience. Sevastopol is a decommissioned trading station that becomes increasingly unstable as you explore. And you are being actively hunted by a ruthless Alien that responds to your every move. Do what you must to survive, by hacking systems, scavenging for resources, and crafting items to help deal with each perilous situation. It’s up to you how you tackle your foes, head on or with more evasive tactics.

Aliens Vs Predator
Naturally, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to relive one of the best crossovers out there. Aliens Vs Predator pits two of science fiction’s greatest monsters against each other; the Xenomorph versus the Predator. This game lets you play as a human marine, Predator, or Alien, allowing you to experience life as the hunter and prey.
Set in a lush jungle and swampy land surrounding the colony of Freya’s Prospect, there are three single-player campaigns to complete, as well as a three-way multiplayer mode that boasts hours of gameplay. Play as a human, in a nail-biting and claustrophobic experience, but armed to the teeth with the best weaponry and explosives the US Marine Corps has at its disposal. Become the ultimate hunter as the Predator, stalking your prey from the shadows then defeating them with exotic weapons and close combat. Alternatively, be the deadliest creature in the universe, the Xenomorph, with your claws, teeth, and terrifying presence as your arsenal.

Aliens: Dark Descent
Aliens: Dark Descent released in 2023, making it the newest entry on this list. A real-time strategy, this game demands tactics if you’re going to survive the onslaught. It’s a single-player adventure, but you control a squad of Colonial Marines, trying to contain an outbreak of Xenomorphs on the Planet Lethe.
The levels are large with no set path to navigate and enemies hidden around every corner. You must dispatch orders and strategically take them down. However, these aliens will learn from your actions and adapt their tactics accordingly, so you need to stay hyper-vigilant. For death is permanent in Aliens: Dark Descent. Thankfully, you can establish safe zones and lay motion trackers to stay fully aware of your surroundings.
The squad you lead can be customised, specialising members with different classes, abilities, and weapons. At base, you can research new technologies to buff your team further and improve your chances of stopping this outbreak.
