Blue Monday is affectionally known as the most depressing day of the year. It’s still going dark at 4pm, all the Christmas chocolate has been eaten, it’s far too cold, and we’re all counting down the days until summer turns up.
If you’re in need of a pick-me-up this Blue Monday, we’ve rounded up a selection of some great gaming TV shows for you to escape into. Grab a duvet, a tasty snack, hot drink, and wish away the dark nights by watching some gaming TV.
Fallout
Fallout hit our TV screens back in 2024 and it rapidly became a firm fan favourite. If you’ve not caught up with all the radioactive action, then Blue Monday is the perfect time to escape into Amazon’s adaptation of the wasteland. The show closely follows the lives of Lucy McLean, a dweller from Vault 33, Maximus, a solider in the Brotherhood of Steel, and The Ghoul, a radiated human desperate to uncover the truth.
As you watch these characters venture across an apocalyptic wasteland, their stories will soon intertwine into one incredible jaw-dropping finale that will have you on the edge of your seat, shouting, “When is season two coming?!”
Secret Level
If you can’t decide on just one video game adaptation to watch, then Amazon’s Secret Level is for you. This animated adult anthology features fifteen episodes, each one detailing an original story based on some of the most loved video games. The series is created by the minds that brought us Netflix’s Love, Death, and Robots and has even been renewed for a second season already after only releasing in December 2024.
Some of the video games in Secret Levels include:
The Last of Us
Another great gaming TV hit was HBO’s adaptation of The Last of Us. We watch Joel and Ellie as they navigate a post-apocalyptic world and become engrossed in the heart-wrenching narrative. There’s plenty of nightmare-inducing zombies to help you forget about your own blues and a beautiful episode all about Bill and Frank which is sure to give you a good cry.
This Blue Monday is the perfect time to watch The Last of Us if you haven’t already, as Bella Ramsey recently took to Instagram to tease season two. It seems these great characters will be returning to our screens in April 2025, so you’ve still got time to binge all nine episodes.
Castlevania
Netflix’s Castlevania is an animated horror-adventure TV show that takes inspiration from the iconic game series of the same name. Set in a dark medieval fantasy world, viewers watch Trevor Belmont as he embarks on a quest to stop Vlad Dracula Tepes and his deadly vampiric plot to destroy humanity.
There are five seasons of this epic show to sink your teeth into. While the TV show has deviated from the original video game storyline, there’s plenty of unique storylines, characters, and lore for you to escape into.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft
Netflix’s Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft debuted back in October 2024 and brings with it everything we know and love about the original action-adventure game series. Set after the events of the 2018 game Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Lara Croft returns home to Croft Manor after a powerful Chinese artefact has been stolen by a thief with an uncanny personal connection. This daring pursuit will take her on yet another adventure around the world as she hunts for the truth and decides what kind of hero she wants to be.
Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft is the perfect choice for fans of the beloved series as it serves to be the missing link between Lara Croft of the ‘Survivor’ series and the Croft seen in the original video games and hit movies starring Angelina Jolie. If you’ve ever had any questions on how Lara Croft became who she is – this is the TV show to watch.
