Do you love your pretty RGB lighting, but detest all the cable clutter that comes with it? Don’t worry fam, Lian Li has you covered with their new UNI FAN SL Wireless and Strimer Wireless range of products.

Lian Li Uni Fan Wireless Motion

How Do They Keep Getting Better?

At Overclockers UK, we have loved Lian Li’s UNI FAN design ever since they first launched them. From there, the Lian Li engineers have refined the design to improve almost every aspect of the fan. Until now, the only thing that hadn’t changed is how a UNI FAN connects to your motherboard.

Previous UNI fan generations utilised the proprietary Lian Li daisy chain technology to connect multiple fans together in a cluster without any cables. These could then be powered and controlled by a single USB and RGB cable which clipped into place on one of the fan frames.

Well, that RGB cable is no more! In its place, the fan is controlled via a 2.4GHz wireless receiver built into the power cable for the fans. This allows for up to four fans to be combined into a cluster, for simultaneous control. A cluster can be formed from both LCD and LED fans, however only three LCD fans can be supported at once.

Cables Without Cables?

It’s not just the fans that have received some attention from Lian Li’s boffins. Their Strimer power extension cables have also received some love. In fact, I’d say they got the lion’s share of work in fact.

Whereas the UNI fans still have that one pesky power cable to contend with, the Strimer Wireless series are truly wireless. Each cable includes the same 2.4GHz receiver, allowing for wireless control of their visual display.

The real game changer is how these cables get their power. Instead of a dedicated cable, the Wireless Series draws their power directly from the cable they’re extending. Not only does this eliminate any cable clutter, but it makes them much easier to install. Imagine, not having to try and find a spare USB header on your motherboard, just plug in and you’ve got beautiful RGB lighting.

One Controller to Rule Them All!

Now we mentioned that both the UNI FAN and Strimer Wireless series devices include a 2.4GHz receiver. But what is sending the signal that controls them? That would be the Lian Li L-Wireless controller.

This clever little dongle utilises a USB connection to interface with your motherboard. This can be done either through a USB A port on your rear I/O, or with a 9-pin USB cable that allows it to connect to a header on your motherboard.

With this controller, you have ten channels of connectivity for multiple devices. Three are dedicated to Strimer cables, so you can use the whole range simultaneously, including a 24-pin motherboard cable, CPU EPS cable, and GPU cable .

The other seven channels can be used for UNI fan clusters. Now, I want you to think about that: the controller can support seven clusters of fans. Each cluster can contain up to four fans. That is a total of twenty-eight! Just imagine how many cables that would’ve needed just a few years ago, and now all you need is seven measly little power cables now.
