The sequel to one of the most critically acclaimed VR games ever is finally here! Asgard’s Wrath 2 dropped earlier this week, exclusively on the Meta Store.
Awaken, Cosmic Guardian, the fate of reality itself lies in your hands. Embark on an epic journey across vast realms inhabited by the gods in pursuit of the Trickster God Loki, who threatens to undo the threads of the universe. It’s up to you to battle monsters and gods alike, as you take on the biggest and most epic-scale action RPGs ever experienced in VR. Don’t worry there’s no story spoilers ahead.
Asgard’s Wrath 2 is finally here, and there is a lot to be excited about with this one. The game has been receiving a significant amount of coverage in the run-up to launch, thanks to Meta bundling it with their latest Quest 3 Headsets. Any Quest 3 model purchased before January 27th, 2024, is set to include Asgard’s Wrath 2.
Unlike the first game, Asgard’s Wrath 2 doesn’t require a VR-ready PC. Gamers will enter a fully standalone experience inside the awe-inspiring open-world RPG. This isn’t the first big-budget open world we’ve seen in VR, but with a reportedly 80+ hours of gameplay, Asgard’s Wrath 2 might just be the longest purpose-built VR RPG.
Much like the first game, we play as a god with the ability to possess mortals, helping them to fulfil their life’s purpose. We’ll be fighting our way through the entire map with what looks to be some pretty impressive combat. Swordplay and the entire combat system rewards timing and blocking, as opposed to insanely thrashing around like some other games that we’ll avoid naming.
Kicking off where the first game ended, you’ll take control of your first human, who’s not too impressed about us doing so. Throughout this early part of the game, familiar and new mechanics are introduced. However, you won’t need to have played the first game to understand the story. With an absolute boatload of main quests and side objectives to chase down, you can very easily spend over 100 hours in Asgard’s Wrath 2.
How To Play Asgard’s Wrath 2
PCVR gamers, sorry to let you down again, but much like Assassin’s Creed Nexus, this one is another standalone title. However, don’t worry about the graphics being a letdown because of this. Somehow, Sanzaru Games has managed to bring incredible fidelity into this game. They must have struck a deal with the gods… Sorry, I’ll let myself out.
To play Asgard’s Wrath 2, you’ll need either a Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, or a Quest Pro. You can grab the game for £44.99 on the Meta Game store. If you’re in the mood for some more standalone and PCVR games, make sure to check out the rest of our Coming To VR Series below.
TL;DR
Just a couple of weeks after the incredible launch of Assassin’s Creed Nexus, and we’ve already got another AAA Standalone VR title to sink our teeth into. With incredible graphics, awesome gameplay, and a pretty heckin cool story as well, you won’t want to miss Asgard’s Wrath 2.
