Escape From Tarkov-like VR survival FPS Ghosts of Tabor is set to launch into early access next month! Here is everything you need to know.

Developed by Combat Waffles Studios, Ghosts of Tabor is a first-person military shooter set in a realistic survival, virtual reality environment. More than just your standard VR FPS, Tabor introduces survival-based systems, including health, hunger, and thirst. Meaning you’ll need to eat and use health items to stay alive.

To upgrade your arsenal and stock up on supplies, you’ll need to do more than just run around shooting players. Looting, trading with vendors, and even crafting new equipment is how you’ll make money and unlock better gear. What’s more, at the player-to-player flea market, you can directly trade with other players.

Story

In 2042, Russian militants (Volk) took over Moscow and declared war on Europe, leading to NATO deploying Special Forces to gather intel. In 2044, a rogue nuke hit Tabor, revealing a hidden research facility, damaging the mainland, and trapping NATO forces. The factions now scavenge for resources, suspecting each other for the blast. They must discover the missile’s origin, gain control of the facility, and escape Tabor.

All three factions are playable, with VOLK and GHOSTS being solely controlled by players. However, the rebel faction formed after the war, FENIX, operate as both NPC and playable characters similar to Escape From Tarkov’s SCAV gameplay.

Gameplay

With mechanics rooted in EFT’s matchmaking, 8-20 players enter a one-hour raid depending on map size. You can head into Tabor alone or in co-op with up to a team of four players as one of the three factions.

In raid, you’ll face other players and competitive AI with Fenix present throughout maps, including extremely difficult-to-kill bosses with high-tier loot. Players can also join raids as members of the FENIX faction when 40% or less of the in-game raid time is left.

You’ll need to keep a sharp eye on your player stats in gameplay, with thirst, hunger, health, weight, and stamina persistent throughout sessions. You can recharge these stats with food, health items, or slowly over time in your safehouse.

Ready to haunt Tarbor?

I swear to Hades if I find you exit camping…  Ghosts of Tabor is one of the most ambitious VR titles we’ve seen in a while, and we can’t wait to enter our first raid. Set to enter Steam early access this March, after an open alpha on February 28th ish, you won’t have to wait too long. What’s more, in addition to PCVR, the game is also going to be available on Meta Quest 2, and PlayStation VR2 at a later date.
