Cute, cosy, and wholesome cooking game Fruitbus is set to take players on a wholesome adventure you won’t want to miss. We got the chance to check this one out early, and in this article, we’ve got all the deets you need to know.
Set to launch Monday 28th October, 2024, Fruitbus is a cute culinary adventure where you and your trusty truck travel an in-depth open world where taste is everything! Taking over your grandma’s famous Fruitbus after she passes away, you embark on a journey to reunite her friends and family for one final celebration. Along the way, you must forage ingredients, create dishes, and feed tummies with brilliant meals. Not all those you encounter on the journey will be so keen to join the celebrations. So, you find yourself on an RPG-esque adventure driving around your Fruitbus to complete the guest list and say your goodbyes.

When I hopped into Fruitbus for the first time, I expected a typical food van management game, akin to the hundreds you can play on mobile. I couldn’t have been more wrong! Fruitbus has great gameplay, an island rich with stories and interesting locations, and a wholesome, albeit moving storyline, which makes the game so much more than simply serving fruit.
Fruitbus has interesting gameplay and plenty of unexpected features that I found were more advanced than I first imagined. Driving the bus requires fuel management, use of an ignition and handbrake. You need to gather ingredients, buy supplies, and upgrade your equipment to make running the Fruitbus easier. A lot of the characters you encounter on the various islands are in-depth and may have extra storylines or quests, which add to the overall immersion.
What’s more, there are plenty of great locations to visit. There are multiple islands with different aesthetics and challenges, and as you travel through the various areas, you’ll discover more ingredients, recipes, and kitchen upgrades to serve your growing client base. The environments are one of the big strengths of Fruitbus, with well-thought-out designs and a beautiful art style, which I thoroughly enjoyed while playing.
Within the first hour of playing I’d scaled a small mountain in search of lemons and couldn’t help but take in the views – the waterfall, cute local town, and lovely ocean scenery.
The thing that really stood out was the sound design and music choices. Cosy games are often filled with great soundtracks which accompany the relaxing gameplay, and Fruitbus is no exception to the rule. If serving fruit in a truck came with this soundtrack in real life, then you could find me on the nearest street corner serving up a tasty snack.
TL;DR
For those who are fans of cosy games with a rich environment and captivating stories, or if you love cooking/kitchen management games, then Fruitbus is certainly the one to try!
