ICYMI, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is the 2019 addition to the CoD franchise, which was re-released in 2023 with an updated engine. Featuring a comprehensive single-player campaign, special ops missions, and fan-favourite multiplayer modes, this first-person shooter is packed with grounded combat and fast-paced action. It also marks the first time crossplay was included on a Call of Duty game.

How Crossplay Works in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
When CoD: MW was first released in 2019, crossplay was only in its early days of popularity. Thanks to Fortnite, it became a sought-after feature, and many multiplayer games that followed were no longer blocked by platform choice.
For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, crossplay is input based. This means if you’re playing on a controller, you’ll likely be paired with other gamers on controllers, while players on a mouse and keyboard with be matched. However, if you are using a controller, you can opt-in to play against those on a mouse and keyboard. The separation is only there to address the accuracy disparity between peripherals. In addition to this, whichever input device you start with is the one you have to use throughout the match – a sensible limitation, really.
To access crossplay in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, you need to have a free Activision/Call of Duty account. This gives you a unique Activision ID, which is how other players and your friends will find you. Crossplay is then available on all multiplayer modes and is enabled by default. When you are in a game lobby, you’ll be able to see what console and devices everyone else is using.
