We’ve waited… and waited… and waited… but after a decade, we now can get our hands on Dead Island 2! This long-anticipated sequel to the 2011 original finally emerged from development hell on April 28th 2023, and it’s brought a fresh outbreak of zombies with it.
It’s hard to think that it was eight years ago we first saw Dead Island 2’s now iconic cinematic announcement trailer. A trailer that lives in such infamy that even Goat Simulator 3 parodied it for its own reveal. But the game is really available to play. So, whether you’ve been following this drawn-out development or taken a vacation from the news-cycle, here’s everything you need to know about Dead Island 2.
Welcome to HELL-A
The infection has spread beyond the island and now all of Los Angeles has been turned into a quarantine zone. With the military gone, it’s down to you and a band of fellow pathogen resistant survivors to secure the future of the city, and humanity.
The many iconic locals of the City of Angels have become tinged with horror, making the sights truly something else to see. As you set out on an exciting pulp journey, Dead Island 2 has plenty of exciting quests and crazy characters for you to immerse yourself in. But since it’s dangerous to go alone, you can always bring two friends along for over-the-top three-player co-op. We’re sure your trip to LA will be a very long, and very gory, one.
Choose Your Slayer
If you’re gonna survive the zombie uprising, you best do it in style. Dead Island 2 offers you a choice of six Slayers to play as, each with their own personality and dialogue. Diving into the realms of RPGs, each Slayer has fully customisable abilities. With Dead Island 2’s brand new skill system you can instantly re-spec to try out some truly crazy builds.
Zombie Sandbox Madness
It’s not a zombie apocalypse without some gore, and Dead Island 2 has it to spare. First-person combat delivers a truly intense and visceral experience, with a slew of weapons and tactics to help you chew your way through the unending horde. Slice ‘em, slash ‘em, burn ‘em, and rip ‘em till your heart’s content!
LA is overrun with these zombies that look and react realistically. With dozens of distinct variants, that could only ever have been found in LA, Dead Island 2’s advanced dismemberment system makes the beating, reanimated, rotten heart of the game feel different than anything you’ve experienced before!
Welcome to the Haus of Fun!
Dead Island 2 receives its first DLC from November 2nd, let the zombie fun continue! Called Haus, this add on is set in a mysterious Malibu villa and will take you on a journey of madness, debauchery, and gore.
The premise: A secret billionaire’s techno-death cult is fighting for survival in this Zompocalypse. (Frankly, there is not a part of that sentence that I don’t love.) This elitist group believe they have the key to humanity’s survival, and it’s up to you if you decide to join their cause. But rest assured, this new sinister world comes with its own unexpected horrors.
With new story comes new gadgets and gizmos. Whilst you explore the uncharted territory of this Malibu villa, you can slay with these exciting new tools:
- K-ROSSBOW: precise and lethal, this has devastating long range firepower and will explode your target
- Hog Roaster: take visceral slaying to the next level, butcher and BBQ zombies in one fell swoop
- Dead Islands: simply smash the undead into smithereens – what more could you want?
There are also eight new skill cards to expand your deadly abilities. Just what you need for exploring a surreal, psycho-horror scape
What Platform Can I Play Dead Island 2 On?
