It’s the age old question – AMD or NVIDIA? Both AMD and NVIDIA graphics cards come equipped with so many cutting-edge features, including their intelligent adaptative sync technologies – G-Sync and FreeSync.
However, instead of being torn between the two and weighing up the differences in performance, did you know that FreeSync is compatible on NVIDIA graphics cards? Thankfully, as the PC experts, we’ve put together this guide detailing what AMD FreeSync is and how you can use it with your NVIDIA GPU, along with a few of our top FreeSync compatible monitors.
What is AMD FreeSync?
FreeSync is AMD’s official adaptative sync technology which allows your GPU or APU to control the refresh rate of your monitor. Thanks to AMD FreeSync, you can enjoy silky-smooth frame rates with virtually no input lag, screen tearing, or display stutter. All of which combined results in an optimised gaming performance, with no unwanted performance loss or poor visuals.
In order to utilise AMD FreeSync technology, you will need a compatible FreeSync gaming monitor.
Does AMD FreeSync Work with NVIDIA GPUs?
Whilst G-Sync is NVIDIA’s own built-in adaptative sync technology, you can use FreeSync with your NVIDIA graphics card.
In 2019, NVIDIA revealed that all of their graphics cards would now feature support for FreeSync, however there are a few requirements that you must meet. This includes:
- Your PC must have all the latest NVIDIA drivers installed
- You must connect your GPU via the DisplayPort only
- FreeSync is only compatible with GeForce 10 series cards or above
Once you’ve updated your graphics card drives to the latest available, you will need to enable FreeSync and G-Sync on your compatible monitor.

I went into a lot of details hoping I can get some answers and shed some light on the fact that I do streaming too and im upgrading my ram with an additional 32 GB (if u guys think that’s needed so I’ll have 48 GB) but I stream a lot and play GTA V heavily modded with graphics and I play a lot of graphic intensive games.
So? Point is if u didn’t wanna read what card should I get that’s affordable and will last me forever and work with my freesync acer nitro monitor?
Without knowing your budget, it’s hard to guage what qualifies as affordable. Based on what you’ve said here, an RTX 4060 Ti could be a good fit?
