Elite Dangerous was first released in December 2014 and allows players to control, pilot and upgrade their own spaceship while exploring the vast expanse of the Milky Way. The real stars, planets, moons, asteroid fields and black holes of our own galaxy are constructed to realistic proportions resulting in one of the largest designed maps in video game history.
In this MMO you start off with a small starship and through exploration, combat, mining and encounters with other people you have to gain the skill, knowledge and wealth to survive and thrive in this cut-throat galaxy. Your story, decisions and interactions influence the unique ever-changing narrative. Governments fall, battles are lost and won, and humanity’s frontier is reshaped by players aiming to stand among the ranks of the iconic Elite.
What is Elite Dangerous Odyssey and when is it available?
Odyssey is the latest downloadable content for Elite Dangerous and it’s due to be released early next year. The expansion allows players to now explore distant worlds on foot and venture into areas of unknown space. There will be countless unique planets and untouched land to discover, each powered by stunning new tech.
Players can explore with unrestricted freedom to discover distant outposts and settlements where diverse settings, objectives, and NPCs offer endless mission variety and a near-infinite amount of content to enjoy. New public outposts and social hubs are where teams can be assembled and weapons and gear upgraded and customised depending on your playing style. Odyssey will add a whole extra layer to the immersion of space exploration with intense first-person combat, an array of weapons and gear, and coordination with teammates. The Galaxy will now be a multi-layered and tactical environment where Commanders, Surface Vehicles and Starships converge.
What are the PC requirements for Elite Dangerous Odyssey?
The release date of Elite Dangerous Odyssey is still reasonably far off and therefore there has been no official announcement about what specifications will be needed for the new expansion. The only change frontier has declared is the loss of VR support due to the mechanics and features being introduced in Odyssey. However, as Odyssey is simply an expansion for the original game it’s likely the system specifications will be the same or similar to the base game specifications which are below.

Will my PC run Elite Dangerous Odyssey?
If you have a PC that plays Elite Dangerous well it’s highly likely you will also have a great experience playing the Odyssey DLC. Even if the recommended specifications increase for the new content your performance should still be above the minimum requirements. If you’re running a less powerful PC you might find your experience is impacted negatively by the new DLC. The addition of planet surface exploration means that textures and structures will be more detailed and possibly put more strain on your graphics card. With the Odyssey expansion introducing traditional first-person shooter gameplay it will be more important to obtain high FPS in order to have an advantage over your opponents and this will require more powerful hardware.
What is a good PC to play Elite Dangerous Odyssey on?
