System Shock is a cult classic from 1994, and now it’s received the remake treatment, complete with HD visuals and updated controls.
In just a few short days, we will be able to relive this ground-breaking sci-fi horror with the updated graphics it deserves. Made in Unreal Engine, this game has been built from the ground up, to include updated controls, an overhauled interface, and all-new soundscape. Not every detail has been changed, however, as the original voice of SHODAN has reprised their roles. Some things just don’t need changing. If you’re excited for this game, then read on. We have a breakdown of gameplay, specs, and a selection of great PCs to play on.
System Shock: Updated Visuals And More
SHODAN is a rogue AI and has taken control of Citadel Station, turning the crew in to an army of cyborgs and mutants to fight on her command. She plans to do the same to Earth and it’s up to you , a rogue hacker, to thwart her evil plans. Just like in the original 1994 version, SHODAN is an iconic villain that needs stopping.
System Shock is an immersive space adventure game. It takes you through a non-linear story, developing at your pace, beautifully illustrated in an art style that merges retro-future with modern tech. As you search through Citadel Station, improve and hone your skills to adapt fighting styles when taking on the myriad of foes SHODAN sends your way. Shoot, brawl, climb, crawl, leap, and think your way out of danger!
The updated HD visuals and soundscape really bring this influential game to life, all while still retaining plenty of that 90s style. Let SHODAN’s children scare you all over again!
Where Can I Play System Shock?
System Shock will be available to play on PC, via Steam and Epic Games, from May 30th. It will also be available to play on PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, but not until later in the year.
There are no multiplayer modes available. Streaming is the way to go if you wanted to share this immersive sim with friends.
