The Ubisoft Forward Presentation 2022 saw an influx of all things Assassin’s Creed in our news feeds.
At Overclockers UK, we love it. Not only does it give us plenty to speculate about, it’s the perfect excuse to boot up our favourite title from the franchise and take nose dives from high vantage points. Today, we’re taking a closer look at all the titles announced and generally feeling excited about what’s in store.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage
First up, we have the next instalment, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which released roughly one year after this Ubisoft Forward announcement. Set in ninth-century Baghdad, this is a coming-of-age story focused on the Hidden Ones, first revealed in Origins and featured in Valhalla. In fact, this game is set a full twenty years prior and follows Basim Ibn Ish’aq in very narrative-driven gameplay.
From the cinematic trailer alone, we can see this is a downright beautiful game. The cityscape is stunning and the colours are deliciously vibrant, especially the shadow power we see in the trailer! Just imagine how incredible this game will look played on an RTX 40 Series graphics card. There will be four distinct districts to explore, scaling tall towers and parkouring across rooftops. The overall vibe of this Assassin’s Creed is an homage to the earlier games, with one distinct difference; there will be no playable modern-day segments. The game is bookended with the Animus, and that’s it.
Instead, the focus will be on Basim and his compelling story. You’ll play this budding assassin as he is taken from the streets of Baghdad by the Hidden Ones, to learn their mysterious ways and to master the art of death under the tutelage of Roshan. For the eagle-eared among you watching the trailer, you might have noticed she is voiced by Emmy award-winning actress Shohreh Aghdashloo.
What Gameplay Can We Expect from Assassin’s Creed Mirage?
Other than the omission of modern-day, the gameplay is very similar to that established across the series. Basim must stealthily explore the city, gather clues on his targets, and swiftly fulfil his contracts without jeopardising the Order. This game sees the largest arsenal of tools to date, including the use of your environment around you, as well as Basim’s eagle who will tag enemies and survey areas when you can’t.
This is reportedly a shorter game than previous instalments, but it’s a core story in the AC history and lore. The structure is set to be more linear, like with the original games, with certain points opening up to side quests. Another interesting addition is what Ubisoft are calling “Black Box Missions”. These will be main assassination quests that will provide, quote, “opportunities to define the means and path to take down the next target”.

What Platforms Will Assassin’s Creed Mirage Be Available On?
Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be available to play on PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, and PC either via Epic Game or with a Ubisoft+ subscription.

Assassin’s Creed Codename Red
Next on our “OMG I Want It” list is Assassin’s Creed Codename Red. This will be the first game released on the Assassin’s Creed Infinity game hub (more on that later!).
Codename Red has officially been named Assassin’s Creed Shadows, officially premiered on May 16th 2024. It is set in Feudal Japan, a historical period that’s been frequently requested by fans. Vice president executive producer of Assassin’s Creed, Marc-Alexis Côté, describes Shadows as being the “next premium flagship” game and how it will be the future of Ubisoft’s open-world RPG games. Originally expected in March 2025, we were delighted to see Ubisoft set the launch date for November 15th 2024. Mark your calendars, everyone!
All round exciting stuff.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows is being handled by Ubisoft Quebec with creative director Jonathan Dumont attached to the project. They’ve previously worked on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Immortals Fenyx Rising.
We can’t wait for this “full Shinobi fantasy”!
Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe
The next big announcement was Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. The witchy vibes are something else, and it looks to be an interesting direction for the franchise. Côté even said that it is going to be a very different game. How? We can only speculate. Are supernatural elements wishful thinking?
So far, we have no details on setting, characters, or time period. Just the rune-filled trailer with the iconic Assassin’s Creed logo made up like a witch’s talisman. Hexe even means “witch” in German, leading to the assumption that this instalment could be very spooky indeed. Time to rewatch Hocus Pocus and brush up on our witch lore!
Codename Hexe is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal. Clint Hocking, of Far Cry 2 and Watch Dogs: Legion fame, is set to direct.
Assassin’s Creed Infinity
Codename Red and Hexe are both being developed for Ubisoft’s new platform, Assassin’s Creed Infinity. This will act as a hub for games old and new, acting as a one-stop shop for all things Assassin’s Creed. Here is what Côté had to say about Infinity during Ubisoft Forward 2022:
Infinity is not a game, per-se. It’s going to be the single entry point for our fans into the Assassin’s Creed franchise into the future. Infinity is going to be a hub that will unite all our different experiences and our players together in meaningful ways.
Marc-Alexis Côté
Vice President Executive Producer
Details on this platform are currently sparse, with no real ballpark for when it or the companion games will be released. Passing comments during Ubisoft Forward has led to some speculation about multiplayer experiences and how this platform will interact with the franchise. Until we have some firm details, that is all it will be.
For now, we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled!
Other Announcements
There were two more announcements which really caught our attention. Sticking with the gaming world, we have Assassin’s Creed Jade. Taking a step away from PC and console gaming, this is going to be an open-world mobile game, optimised for touch control. Set in 215 BCE China, this game will feature classic gameplay from the franchise, just on a whole new platform and with character customisation. Parkouring across the Great Wall of China has just become possible! While not yet available to download, you can register and subscribe to stay up to date.
Mobile gaming’s validity has long been debated – could this be the game to rise it from the mire?
Finally, it would seem that Assassin’s Creed is coming to a streaming service near you! Ubisoft has teamed up with Netflix for more than their gaming platform, with a live action and anime series in the mix. Plus, there is the documentary Beyond the Creed, which is available to watch now.
There is definitely a lot coming up on the Assassin’s Creed timeline. What a time to be a fan!
Dust Off Those Parkour Skills
Whilst we wait for more information and these games to drop, we can certainly dust off our parkour skills and boot up our favourite Assassin’s Creed game. There’s even a new expansion, The Last Chapter, to explore in Valhalla. My favourite is Black Flag – love a good sea shanty! Drop a comment below with the Assassin’s Creed game you’re most excited for, and what you’ll be playing in the meantime.
PC specs are subject to change.
