ICYMI, it was Gamescom 2024 this weekend just gone, and boy have there been some big announcements!
Gamescom 2024
Gamescom 2024 took place from August 21st to the 25th, in Cologne. The arena was chock full of stands showcasing the latest games and tech. Here is but a taste of what was available.
Our Highlights
With so much going on over the course of Gamescom, one simply cannot cover it all! So, we’ve rounded up our highlights and invite you to share yours in the comments below.
Opening Night
Opening night was hosted by Geoff Keighley, and a spicy selection of titles were announced. Borderlands 4, Dying Light: The Beast, Peter Molyneux’s Masters of Albion, and finally a release date for the upcoming Indiana Jones game! This two-hour showcase had it all. If you missed it, or just need to relive all the excitement, the whole thing is available to watch on YouTube!
Starfield: Shattered Space
We were big on the Starfield hype train. (Hype spaceship?) For good reason, too, as it is our space pirate fantasies come true. In that respect alone, we were spoiled by Gamescom. First, came the addition of vehicles to the base game, and now there is a new story expansion coming in September too? Yes please!
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
The excitement levels are over 9000 for this one – and it comes to our gaming PC on October 10th! This 3D fighter takes the original gameplay from the Budokai Tenkaichi series and takes it to a whole new level. With an incredible roster of playable characters and dynamic environments, we can’t wait to try out all the signature abilities, transformations, and techniques!
Age of Mythology: Retold
Age of Empires meets mythology and pantheons. Sign me up! Age of Mythology: Retold brings together the familiar gameplay of developing your city and the chaos and carnage that only mythological gods can create. Choose from a plethora of iconic pantheons and see if your budding civilisation can withstand monsters and acts of God. You can even turn that destructive power on your enemies. Best of all, the release date is heckin’ close! Mark your calendars, September 4th.
Of course, we can’t talk strategic city builders without mentioning Sid Meier’s Civilization VII – which also revealed new gameplay, the narrator, and its launch date at Gamescom.
Entoria: The Last Song
Due to land on our PCs September 19th, Entoria: The Last Song is an action RPG souls-like game, inspired by Italian folklore. Using masks to adapt your role, you’ll face formidable foes and alter reality with the power of Ardore. It’s giving “a girl has no name”. There are three main regions to explore, more than 100 enemies to best, 68 skills to unlock, over 120 weapons with different classes, 45 spells, unparalleled character stat flexibility, and so much more, all culminating in over 40 hours of gameplay.
Unknown 9: Awakening
The highly anticipated Unknown 9: Awakening will be with us in the autumn. Playing as Haroona, you are a Quaestor born with the ability to travel into the Fold – a mysterious dimension that overlaps with our own. With a compelling story featuring a quest for hidden knowledge, splinter factions of secret societies, and history altering schemes, this action-adventure has us gripped already! Plus, it stars Anya Chalotra from The Witcher.
Indie Arena Booth
Finally, we wanted to highlight the Indie Arena Booth. It’s no secret that we love indie gaming – we have a monthly showcase, after all! This area was packed with new and upcoming indie games, all deserving some love and attention. From cosy Kickstarters like Out and About to souls-like RPGs such as Tails of Iron 2, the Indie Arena Booth covered an eclectic selection of genres, art styles, and mechanics. These are certainly some titles to watch!
