PIrate themed game blank blog feature

There once were some games that were set at sea,

And the names of those games on this list you’ll read.

Why is this intro a shanty, you say?

Well tell us a better way! (huh!)

Pirate themed games blog feature image

Soon the first entry shall come,

And we’ll cover each title one by one.

Then when our highlights are done,

We’ve got some hardware to shoooooow.

Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag

We’ll leave any further shanties to this swashbuckling tale. As the pirate-cum-assassin Edward Kenway, you’ll get to captain your ship the Jackdaw across the Caribbean during the vaunted Golden Age of Piracy. From pillaging British vessels and harpooning whales to adventuring with Blackbeard himself, Black Flag’s focus on high seas action and exploration will have you hooked faster than you can shiver your own timbers.

King of Seas

Ever asked yourself “what if No Man’s Sky was set at sea and not in space?” That’s what King of Seas is here to heartily answer. Its ever-changing nautical world is filled with islands to pillage and booty to plunder. Customise your vessel right down to the cut of her jib. Then set sail, battle monsters and other pirates, discover islands to settle, and become the King of Seas

Sea of Thieves

Avast ye scurvy dogs, now this be the pirate’s life we’ve been looking for! The quintessential sea-faring adventure, we would wager you’ve heard of Sea of Thieves already. By Poseidon’s beard, we even dressed up as pirates just to play it. This shared world adventure offers you the chance to voyage the high seas solo, or assemble a motley crew of scallywags to help you pillage and plunder your way across the waves. Either way, you won’t be alone as you explore islands, battle monsters, and encounter other players!

Return to Monkey Island

It’s hard to miss out on the original pirate adventure! Join Guybrush Threepwood on a point-and-click romp with franchise founder Ron Gilbert back at the helm. Return to Monkey Island starts right where Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge ends without disrupting the canon of games that were released in-between.

Skull & Bones

Skull & Bones is the pirate romp you’re looking for. Visually, this tactical action-adventure game from Ubisoft reminds us greatly of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. But under the hood, it plays far more like Ubisoft’s other big pirate title, Black Flag. Take your customisable pirate captain out in single-player campaign action or alongside five other players for some PvP gameplay when Disputed Waters comes to the game.

Avast! Skull and Bones Has Finally Set Sail on PC

Better yet! This nautical gem was finally released on February 16th 2024! Set sail, me hearties!

Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew

Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew gameplay still

What’s piracy without a few ghost stories and some spooky mysticism? Shadow Gambit washes ashore a tasty blend of real-time-strategy gameplay with pirate fun in a sandbox of tropical islands. Sounds like your kind of fun? Then be sure to chart a course to our deeper dive on everything you can expect from this game!

The Sims 4

“Yarr, what booty be this?” we hear you cry. Yes, while we may not have piracy as a career option, there is nautical fun to be had in this free-to-play title. Any Sim can live the pirate’s life thanks to The Sims 4 Seasons, which you can get bundled with other packs. This expansion pack adds a calendar filled with familiar holidays. One such tradition that appears every Spring is, what else, Talk Like a Pirate Day. Be sure to ‘Gossip About Pirate Booty’ and ‘Compliment Cut of Jib’ until your heart’s content!
