Get Packing! We Tried Moving Out 2

Moving day is almost upon us! We got to take a sneak peek at the long-awaited sequel to ridiculous physics-based moving simulator Moving Out. 

It’s true Moving Out 2 is currently getting packed and ready for launch. As registered F.A.R.T.s we couldn’t wait one second longer. In this review, we’ve got everything you NEED to know before launch. 

If that’s moving up, then I’m moving out… 2   

Before we can move on out to our review we’ll need to get recertified as a F.A.R.T. * Furniture Arrangement Relocation Technician.  

Renewing your certification is as easy as moving a few boxes and throwing a ball. Just make sure to avoid the cardboard dog. The core mechanics of Moving Out 2 are introduced seamlessly during this tutorial preparing us for the wacky world of home removals.

Whilst you can play Moving Out 2 with a keyboard, you’re going to want to use a Controller instead. Part of Moving Out 2’s charm is the easy-to-learn and difficult to master movement controls. When moving freely you’ll have no problem but maneuvering heavy couches into the truck on your own isn’t the easiest task.

Returning from the first game is SMG Studio and Devm Games’ commitment to accessibility and representation. 

Moving Out 2’s accessibility settings are immediately available as the first options when opening the menu. Here you can change the interface scale, select a dyslexic-friendly font, enable subtitles, and choose how much screen shake to allow. It is genuinely refreshing to not have to search through endless options to find these settings.  

Alongside Moving Out 2’s great accessibility options are a whole host of playable characters you can choose from. All of which can be used with a wheelchair. What’s more, if you prefer to play as a human there’s lots of choice here too, with characters featuring Hijabs, glasses, and a diverse selection of races.

Gameplay 

Once you’ve made it through the F.A.R.T. training program, without needing an ambulance or fire brigade, it’s time to hit the road. Solo or with friends.

Getting between jobs is easy. Just hop in the impossible to drive straight moving truck and head to your next location! You don’t even need to worry about all the reckless damage caused along the way! 

Whether you’re into car truck football or smashing other people’s sandcastles (you monster), the Moving Out 2 truck has you covered.  

As a Smooth Moves Master Mover, you’ll need to get all the boxes, couches, TVs, and everything else into the truck as fast as possible. If you’re not a video game journalist and actually good at games, you’ll want to aim for the Pro Time rather than the Pass Time. Choosing where you grab an object so it will fit through the door is just as important as when to grab it, and making everything fit in the truck is harder than it looks. 

Accompanying all this crazy moving is an upbeat soundtrack. You’ll find yourself dancing along to it without even realising. What’s more, the dedicated local and online co-op modes might just make Moving Out 2 the best game to play with friends so far this year. Sadly, this review was played alone… not because I don’t have any friends or anything.

Moving Out 2 is filled with snark, jokes, and honestly some pretty terrible puns. Leaving the game un-paused for just a couple moments, will have the game’s narrator almost immediately begin asking whether you’re in the toilet and if you’re doing number ones or twos. Yes, I am here Mr Narrator and no, I’m not going to share the snack you think I’ve gone to get. 

Disappearing for a snack every now and then is a must, as it is extremely easy to lose hours to this game. Especially if you want every little secret achievement and extra star. Whether you’re playing alone, in co-op, or even Steam Play Together Mode, Moving Out 2 is window smashingly fun and absolute mayhem.
