Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut: Everything You Need to Know

Sony may be rocking the boat with their PSN requirements, but we are still excited to play Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut on PC for the first time.

Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut: Everything You Need to Know

From cinematic combat to a gloriously detailed open world, Ghost of Tsushima has been crying out for a PC port. As of May 16th 2024, that dream is now a reality. So, we’re taking a look at everything you need to know about the Director’s Cut, what PC software integration is supported, and, of course, some spicy PCs which we think will be perfect for playing this sprawling adventure.

Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut Gameplay

Ghost of Tsushima is an action-adventure, open-world game set in the late 13th century. The Mongol empire has laid waste to the eastern lands and Tsushima Island is all that stands between it and mainland Japan. You play as Jin Sakai, a samurai warrior, the last of his clan, and a man who will stop at nothing to reclaim his homeland. Even if this means setting aside the traditions that forged him for a new path, the path of the Ghost.

A Storm Is Coming

Putting all your best stealth skills to the test, Ghost of Tsushima has you sneaking around the island, ambushing Mongol soldiers in gory combat with gruesome detail. (Said with sheer delight, I assure you.) Mastering your katana and bow are vital for dispatching your enemies in this war you wage. The adaptive landscape and organic approach to combat offers the perfect playing field for mixing up your fighting skills, trying out new tactics, and switching between weapons. Being versatile and creative will be your best assets as the story unfolds. Plus, you’ll unlock new skills and items along the way to aid in your mission to reclaim Tsushima Island.

Director’s Cut Edition

The Director’s Cut includes the Iki Island expansion, which boasts a new story with more mini-games and enemy types to face, as well as new content and items. There is even a director’s commentary, where the creative team and a renowned Japanese historian compare Ghost of Tsushima and its world to the real-life historical events that inspired the game.

More Director’s Cut features include the Kurosawa mode, where you can play in dramatic black and white, and an improved Japanese voiceover with an accurate lip sync as your computer renders the game in real time.

PC Port Optimisation

In addition to great gameplay, Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut has been optimised for PC. This includes having Ultrawide (21:9), Super Ultrawide (32:9), and even triple monitor (48:9) support. Immerse yourself in this beautifully detailed world like never before!

That’s not all, there is extensive integration with graphics card technology, for NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs. All three upscaling software are supported, so you can enjoy silky smooth frame rates regardless of which brand you use. Plus, there is additional support for NVIDIA Reflex and DLAA to reduce latency and improve the overall quality of your game’s image.

For your input device, you can use either a controller or mouse and keyboard. With a wired DualSense controller, you can enjoy all the haptic feedback and adaptive triggers for a truly immersive experience. Ghost of Tsushima is compatible with both PlayStation and Xbox style controllers, but the full haptic experience is only with wired DualSense controllers. Alternatively, you can seamlessly play with a mouse and keyboard, exploiting fully customisable controls to suit your play style.

Is Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut Multiplayer?

Yes! Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut includes the Legends Online Multiplayer as a free download, where you play co-operatively in adventures inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology. You can play as one of four classes – Samurai, Ronin, Hunter, or Assassin – in either two-player story missions or four-player survival missions with waves of foes to defeat. Play with friends or via online match-making!

With the PSN integration, there is support for crossplay, too. This feature is still in development and labelled as “beta” currently.

It should be noted that multiplayer isn’t available on Steam Deck, as it requires Windows to access PSN features.
