The GMMK 3

The Glorious GMMK 3 is a highly modular gaming keyboard, with an extensive ecosystem of accessories that allow you to customise to your heart’s content. GMMK actually stands for Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard. (So, when I type out Glorious GMMK Keyboard, I’m actually saying Glorious Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard Keyboard!) 

The GMMK 3 Series includes a range of models that each offer premium typing experiences to enhance your gaming. These are the GMMK 3 Barebones, GMMK 3 PRO Barebones, GMMK 3 Pre-Built, GMMK 3 PRO Pre-Built, GMMK 3 HE Pre-Built, and GMMK 3 PRO HE Pre-Built.

Innovative Layers

Whether you go PRO or opt for the Hall Effect models, each of the GMMK 3 keyboards has the same innovative internal layering. Better yet, there is room to customise these components too! 

Starting with the switch plate, as standard, this made from aluminium to provide a precise and tactile typing feel which is firm yet flexible. This can be swapped out for an alternative switch plate made from brass, TR4, or polycarbonate (sold separately), which each bring their own unique feels to the keyboard. 

Below this is a dual layer sound dampening foam. This does exactly what it says on the tin, absorbing unwanted sounds as it cushions each keystroke. As a result, the GMMK 3 has satisfying acoustics. 

A key component of the GMMK 3 is the Modular Gasket System (MGS). Most keyboards have a fixed gasket position, but the GMMK 3’s MGS allows you to remove and replace the gaskets below the PCB assembly. The peg and rail system makes them easy to pull out and pop in, so you can arrange them as you want. Keeping more modules in place makes your typing experience firm, which is great for fast paced gaming. Removing the modules, however, gives from flex to the board and provides a softer typing experience, perfect for typing up long reports. In the standard GMMK 3 models, the modules are made of silicone, whereas in the PRO editions, they are Poron. 

Mechanical vs Hall Effect

The big difference between the GMMK 3 Pre-Built models is the type of switch they use. You can choose between Glorious Fox mechanical switches (GMMK 3 / PRO) or Glorious Fox magnetic switches (HE editions). Both are linear, light, and smooth to type on, but the Fox HE switches offer far more customisation options. 

Fox Mechanical Switches

The Glorious Fox mechanical switches provide a satisfying keypress with little to no noise. To actuate, they require 45gf of force and 2.0mm of travel, making them great for fast-paced gaming. Highly durable, these are fantastic switches to have in your gaming keyboard and if you want to know more about them, we have a blog for that!  

Fox HE Switches

If you are after some serious control over your switches, however, the Glorious Fox HE switches can provide. For some standard switch stats, they require 30g of force to actuate, 55g to bottom out, and they are rated for 100 million clicks.  

The travel distance to actuate is where things get interesting – you can customise this anywhere between 0.1mm and 4.0mm! Whether you need short, rapid keystrokes or a longer travel to prevent mis-clicks, you can tailor this setting down to the individual keys. To make each keystroke the pinnacle of responsiveness, this is paired with a feature called Rapid Trigger. This puts the reset point just 0.1mm above the actuation to enhance precision and better support those quick-fire keystrokes. 

Need more? How about 4:1 Action? This allows you to assign up to four actions on a single keystroke. Layer commands or put a different in-game ability at each point, and dominate in all your favourite titles! 

With the GMMK 3 PRO HE models, all this is supported by an 8,000Hz polling rate (wired connectivity only), so your gaming PC receives inputs up to eight times faster!

Glorious Core

All of the Hall Effect switch features can be configured in Glorious Core. This comprehensive companion software allows you to fine tune every aspect of your GMMK 3. This extends to the three-zone RGB lighting and key re-mapping. The programmable rotary knob is back for the GMMK 3, too, and you can assign multiple functions, such as volume control or even custom actions.
