Get ready to deploy Spartans, as the long-awaited second season of Halo Infinite has finally begun on Xbox and PC. Anticipation has been bubbling away for quite a while. After a series of delays, Lone Wolves is finally with us. We’ve known what to expect for a couple of weeks now thanks to the season roadmap. Let’s have a deeper dive into all the maps, game modes, and everything else coming in Halo Infinite Season 2.
Lone Wolves Roadmap and Overview
Season 2 starts today, May 3rd, and is set to carry on for longer than the first season with Season 3 slated for November 8th. There’s a new 100 Tier Battle Pass full of cosmetic goodies for you to grind out over the next six months. We’ve also got two brand new maps and three fresh game modes to enjoy in-between timed narrative events. The first, Interference, is running from now until May 16th, and the next one, Alpha Pack, will run from July 19th to August 1st.
Alongside these and some general quality of life updates, 343 Industries are aiming to launch several other anticipated features during this season. Mission replay and online co-op for Halo Infinite’s campaign are both penciled in for late August, while split-screen co-op has been relegated to some unknown point in Season 3. We should also finally get access to Forge in September when they’re hoping to start an ongoing Open Beta.
Two New Maps for Halo Infinite
343 Industries are treating us to not one, but two brand new maps this season. The first of these is set in an arid desert-themed location and is called Breaker. This map is built for the Big-Team-Battle mode, which has been Halo Infinite’s go-to mode for many players since launch. Each team will have a base built into a huge chunk of ship debris, divided by a plasma cutting beam structure in the middle.
The second, Catalyst, is a smaller map for arena, the ranked competitive play mode. This symmetrical map is set in and around a moss-covered Forerunner structure with two different levels. You’ll be able to find this map in “multiple playlists” from launch, so expect it to feature heavily throughout Season 2.
Halo Infinite Season 2 Game Modes
Free-to-play multiplayer games need to keep things fresh to keep players engaged, something 343 Industries are focusing on doing with Halo Infinite Season 2. As well as the new maps, they’re also adding three new game modes for players. There’s also a rumour that Attrition will return at some point after a brief stint around launch, potentially remaining in-game until Season 3.
Last Spartan Standing
The first game mode coming in Season 2 is the all-new Last Spartan Standing. Twelve players will get dropped into a Big Team Battle map to fight it out with limited respawns. Each Spartan has five lives and the last one remaining wins. If you run out of lives, you are free to spectate or leave the match without incurring any penalty.
King of the Hill
Season 2 sees the return of one of Halo’s most beloved modes, as Lone Wolves brings King of the Hill into the fold. In this mode, if you couldn’t figure from the name, players battle it out to control the ‘hill’ for longer than the other to claim victory. This mode can be played both Team vs. Team or Free-For-All for those who wake up and choose chaos.
Land Grab
The third and final new game mode for Halo Infinite this season is called Land Grab. A mode for teams that’s part King of the Hill and part Territories. There are five zones to be captured and once you’ve got a hold of one it cannot be re-captured. The winning team is the one that takes the majority of the zones within the time limit.
