But how do you access your BIOS? We’re here to show you step-by-step how to access your BIOS.
Why Would I Need to Access My BIOS?
The BIOS, or basic input/output system, is a crucial aspect of any gaming PC. Embedded on your motherboard, the BIOS is responsible for booting up your system and managing any data flows between the OS and any connected devices.
There are a few reasons why you might need to access your motherboard’s BIOS. This includes:
- Updating the BIOS
- Changing your boot order
- Enabling or disabling integrated features – e.g. Intel XMP
- Adjusting voltages or clock speeds for overclocking
- Configuring fan speeds
- Troubleshooting issues
How Do You Access Your Motherboard BIOS
Whilst it might sound overly complicated, accessing your PC’s BIOS is easy. There are two simple methods you can use.
The first method is whilst your PC is booting up. Begin by restarting your computer and press the hotkey assigned to your BIOS repeatedly as it is booting up. This hotkey varies between motherboard manufacturers. If you aren’t sure which hotkey to press, look at your motherboard manual or search online.
Alternatively, you can access the BIOS through Windows Settings. To do this go into Settings > System > Recovery. In the Recovery menu, select Advanced Startup and then ‘Restart Now’. You’ll receive a pop up reminding you to save any unsaved work.
From here, you’ll be able to select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings > Restart.
