So, you’ve tried out Windows Copilot, and it’s not quite your thing. Whether it feels intrusive or you prefer a hands-on approach, we’ve got you covered. In this article, we’ll show you how to disable Windows Copilot.

How To Remove Windows Co-Pilot

What is Windows Copilot?

Windows Copilot is a built-in AI assistant designed to make life easier by helping with tasks such as summarising emails, managing appointments, and improving productivity in Microsoft apps like Word, Excel, and Teams. Whilst Copilot can definitely be helpful in day-to-day tasks, not everyone loves it.

Step-by-Step Guide to Removing Windows Copilot

Generally speaking, you have two options for removing Windows Copilot. The first option is pretty involved, with you needing to change Group Policy in your Windows settings meaning this route is generally only a good idea for power users. Alternatively, you can simply hide the assistant from your taskbar setting menu, which hides the AI tool from view, while keeping it available in the background if needed.

Option 1: Disable Copilot via Group Policy (Power Users)

For those familiar with Group Policy, this method provides complete control over Copilot.

  • Open the Run command by pressing Win + R.
  • Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
  • Go to Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Copilot.
  • Double-click on Turn off Windows Copilot, and set it to Enabled.
  • Click Apply, then OK. Restart your PC to apply changes.

Option 2: Hide Copilot via Taskbar Settings (For Beginners)

Not feeling brave enough for Group Policy? You can simply hide Copilot without diving into complex settings.

  • Right-click on the Taskbar
  • Select Taskbar Settings
  • Scroll down and toggle off Copilot (preview)

This hides Copilot from view, but it’s still available in the background if needed.

Artificial Intelligence has become a fundamental aspect of our lives. From the videos we watch, the questions we ask Alexa, to the video games we immerse ourselves in. The question is, how is this changing the PC and gaming industry?

Is Copilot Worth It?

Before you completely disable Copilot, it’s worth considering its benefits. The AI assistant can save time with its ability to integrate across different Microsoft 365 apps, boosting productivity for those who juggle a lot of tasks. On the flip side, if you prefer a streamlined, no-AI experience, removing it might make your desktop feel less cluttered
