Are all your friends and family consistently pestering you for your WiFi password every time they visit? You can save yourself a lot of hassle by sharing your password with those you trust.

But how do you share a WiFi password you ask? Here’s everything you need to know.

Why Is It Important to Password Protect Your WiFi

Before you even think about sharing your WiFi password, you need to make sure you actually have a password setup. A strong password is one of the most reliable forms of protection you can have as it means no one (unless they have the password) can access of your data or home network.

A good rule of thumb is that your password should be a combination of capital letters, numbers, and special characters. It shouldn’t be something that is easy to guess (looking at you with 1234 as your password…).

Can You Share a WiFi Password?

The short answer is – yes! You can share your WiFi password with other devices that are trying to access your home network.

We do recommend that you don’t share it unless you know exactly who is trying to connect to your network. Friends and family are fine, but if it’s a stranger, don’t go sharing your password with them.

How to Share a WiFi Password – A Step-by-Step

Don’t know how to share your WiFi password? We’ve broken in down step-by-step per device below.

  1. Turn on your Phone’s Bluetooth and sign your iCloud account. You can do both of these things in your iPhone’s Settings.
  1. Have your friend connect to your WiFi network.
  1. You should receive a notification on your iPhone that someone is trying to connect to your network.
  1. Select ‘Share Password’ to confirm.
  1. Your friend will then be able to see your password and click ‘Join’ to finish connecting to your WiFi.

Via Android

If you have an Android phone, here’s what you need to know to share your WiFi password.

  1. Log into your home network on your mobile phone.
  1. Go into Settings > WiFi.
  1. Click on the small cog icon that will be next to your network’s name on the drop-down list.
  1. Select ‘Share Network’.
  1. A QR code should appear.
  1. Your friend can either manually type in the password or scan the QR code to connect to your network.

Via Computer

If you’re using your PC and wish to share your WiFi password, follow these steps.

  1. Go into Settings > Network & Internet.
  1. Locate the ‘Network and Sharing Center’.
  1. Click the network you want to share the password for.
  1. Select ‘Wireless Network Properties’.
  1. Access the ‘Security Tab’ and click on the ‘Show Characters’ box.

There is also the obvious and easiest answer which is sharing the small card included on your router with your family or friends. Sharing the password this way is simple, easy, and hassle-free.
