Building a high-speed gaming PC packed full of next-generation hardware doesn’t have to break the bank! In fact, it’s pretty easy to build a great PC on a budget, thanks to more and more manufacturers offering cutting-edge hardware at wallet-friendly prices.

Therefore, we’ve put together all the hardware you need to build the ultimate, yet affordable, gaming PC.

The Essential but Affordable Hardware

CPU

For the purposes of building an affordable gaming PC, we’ve chosen the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 CPU. Utilising all-new AMD Zen 4 architecture, this processor comes equipped with six cores and 12 threads. Capable of reaching up to 5.10GHz, unlock ultra-fast speeds in both single- and multi-threaded tasks, including AAA gaming, streaming, or even video editing.

What’s more, the AMD Ryzen 7000 series features support for the latest cutting-edge technology, including PCIe 5.0, DDR5, and even AMD EXPO, to optimise your gaming performance. Plus, with a TDP of only 65W, you won’t have to worry about your gaming PC landing you a hefty electricity bill.  This CPU also comes included with an AMD Wraith Stealth CPU cooler. Not only will this keep your processor performing at optimum temperatures, but it will also save you a few extra pennies as you’ll no longer need to purchase an additional cooler.

Motherboard:

To pair with the AMD Ryzen 5 7600 CPU, we’ve selected two different motherboards – a Micro-ATX and an ATX.

A Micro-ATX motherboard is best suited for those looking to create small space saving PCs (SFF) on a budget. These motherboards are usually cheaper compared to the other form factors and can fit into most cases, except for Mini-ITX. A Micro-ATX motherboard will only feature one PCIe lane, which means it is suited to single GPU set ups.

Alternatively, an ATX motherboard is bigger and will only be able to fit inside mid or full tower PC cases. Since it is a larger motherboard, these will typically feature multi-GPU support along with high RAM capacity. This makes them more suited to those who wish to enjoy intensive AAA gaming or workloads, such as 3D image rendering or video editing.

You can opt for budget-friendly GPUs from either NVIDIA or AMD. These graphics cards come equipped with a full suite of intelligent features, such as enhanced Real-Time Ray Tracing or AMD FSR 2.0. Both of the GPUs we’ve chosen, the NVIDIA RTX 4060 and AMD Radeon RX 7600, are suited for gamers who wish to unlock high-quality performance, smooth frame rates, and an immersive gaming experience. All whilst remaining well within their budget.

If your budget can allow it, we recommend an SSD with a capacity of at least 1TB. As a result, the WD Black SN770 is a great choice.  This M.2 SSD features a 1TB capacity, along with read speeds of up 5150MB/s and write of up to 4900MB/s, for ultra-fast data transfer rates.
