We are back with our monthly Indie Showcase, where we pick one of the many recently produced gems by independent game developers and make sure it gets some well-deserved time in the sun. For July, we are taking a closer look at the hot crustacean game… Crab God!
What is Crab God?
Crab God is a roguelike strategy game from Chaos Theory Games and Firesquid, with an aquatic twist. You are a Guardian of the Abyss, guiding adorable crablings through the Great Migration to bring forth the next Crab God.
You’ve got a way to travel across the seabed first, and your crablings need nurturing. From their budding personalities to fending off threats, you can upgrade them, build up the reef around them, and grow them into a unique colony with the gentle touch of your mighty claw.
Once the colony is strong enough, it is time for the migration and a new Crab God to rise. On your journey, you must successfully take an egg to the depths to hatch. If you haven’t balanced the growth of your colony and the egg’s safety properly, then you may just have to return to the shallows and start again.
Wait, It’s Good for the Environment?!
Part of Crab God’s gameplay is reintroducing life into the ecosystem, to boost health and diversify the ocean. You unlock flora and fauna as you grow your colony. Thanks to a partnership with dots.eco (external link), playing Crab God can do the same for our actual oceans! Your in-game progression, cultivating reefs and caring for your crablings, will help sustain the environments that inspired this game.
Definitely an eco-energy I can get behind!
