Our Indie Showcase is continuing through 2025! Each month, we’ll pick a recently released independently developed game to shine the spotlight on. Whether they’ve launched to rave reviews or have been a slow burn that’s captured the imagination, these games deserve their day in the sun! For March, we are taking a closer look at the rhythm game… Rift of the NecroDancer!
What is Rift of the NecroDancer?
Rift of the NecroDancer is sequel to the incredibly popular 2015 indie hit Crypt of the NecroDancer, both by Brace Yourself Games. This all-new rhythm game is set to a pulse-pounding soundtrack, with Danny Baranowsky (and friends) returning as composer.
You play as Cadance (hah – band humour), who has been dragged into a strange, new world. Monsters are pouring through the Rift, and you must get in time with the beat so you can defeat them in musical combat.
Rift of NecroDancer is primed for endless replayability. (We do love a good bop on repeat one!) First, you can master four difficulty levels, progressing from easy to impossible. Then, once you’ve mastered the hand-crafted levels, you can play on Remix Mode to really challenge your ability to sight-read and take on daily challenges. Better yet, you can craft your own custom beat maps using the same tools as the devs used to build the entire game!
Rift of the NecroDancer Reception
Since its launch on February 5th 2025, Rift of the NecroDancer has received Overwhelmingly Positive reviews on Steam. With the ten-year legacy Crypt of the NecroDancer paving the way, it’s not hard to see why folks love this veritable earworm of a game.
