Over the years, Jonsbo has released some innovative PC cases. The Jonsbo VR3 and VR4 are no exception. Both of these chassis sport small footprints, sleek mesh casing, and extensive hardware support. Installing the hardware has some serious Tetris vibes, and we are living for the expert design. Check out these beautiful cases.
Shared Features
While the Jonsbo VR3 and VR4 differ in many ways, there are some core features across the VR range. Both cases have a mesh outer shell, providing phenomenal airflow to three of the four sides. The top steel panel can be easily lifted, which then allows you to pull the interior chassis free from the mesh casing. Both models have handles on the back panel to facilitate this function.
Having the ability to pull the interior chassis allows you unprecedented access to all the mounting points and hardware. Whether you’re building for the first time or doing routine maintenance, you can reach every nook and cranny with ease. This innovative feature is certainly why we all have heart eyes for the Jonsbo VR3 and VR4.
Other similarities in the range include the available colours and the I/O panel. Both the VR3 and VR4 are available in classic black or crisp white, and the I/O panels consist of a USB-C, USB 3.0, and power button.
VR3: Upright and Fully Equipped
Of course, it’s their differing features that will be the deciding factor on whether you go VR3 or VR4. The Jonsbo VR3 is an upright, Mini-ITX PC case. Due to its incredibly small footprint, the interior has been carefully curated to optimise the available space for the latest gaming hardware.
The motherboard tray accommodates a Mini-ITX model on the one side, whilst the rear provides support for a vertically mounted GPU, up to 325mm long. A PCIe 4.0 riser cable is included with this model, which can be smoothly fed through a dedicated gap in the motherboard tray. No cable clutter here!
Below the motherboard, there is space for a power supply up to 140mm long. SFX PSUs fit with room to spare, meaning you can opt for a smaller ATX PSU if you need that extra boost of power. Nestled above the power supply is a drive cage that supports two 2.5” SSDs. What’s more, if you opt for a shorter graphics card, you can instal two 3.5” HDDs with the available bracket on that side of the chassis.
Cooling
Despite having limited space, the Jonsbo VR3 has flexible cooling options. Thanks to the mesh shell, the natural airflow is already top-notch. To boost this, the front panel can host two 120mm or 140mm fans. Should you prefer the sweet silence of water-cooling, an AiO loop with a 280mm radiator and 70mm tall CPU cooler can be installed. Neat!
VR4: More Wiggle Room
As the bigger model, the Jonsbo VR4 has a little bit more wiggle room. Motherboards up to and including the ATX form factor are supported, as well as clearance for a 345mm long graphics card. Plus, with a dedicated chamber, you have space for a power supply up to 200mm long. Within this chamber is also a drive cage that can hold up to three SATA drives. It’s up to you whether you go two 2.5” SSDs with a single 3.5” HDD or the other way round.
Naturally, as a more traditional PC case, the layout is more what we expect of a gaming PC. However, with the Jonsbo VR4 still having a relatively small footprint, there are a few limitations on what you can instal. Depending on whether you go water or air cooling will affect the size of the graphics card and PSU. Utilising a radiator brings their maximum length down to 320mm for the GPU and 170mm for the power supply.
Cooling
With its extra wiggle room, the Jonsbo VR4 has outstanding natural airflow with high convection.
To enhance this, you have the option to install fans or an AiO cooler. For the fans, the front panel can accommodate either three 120mm or two 140mm fans, whilst there is a mount for a singular 120mm on the back. Alternatively, the front panel can host a radiator up to 360mm. With clearance for a 167mm cooler, you have plenty of available options. Spicy.
