The beloved MOBA, SMITE, is getting a sequel and we’re heckin’ excited. SMITE 2 promises to continue the legacy of this fan-favourite MOBA by providing players with plenty of incredible gameplay as you battle it out in an arena.
If you can’t wait to play this sequel, we’ve put together this blog post highlighting all the key details you need to know.
The Gameplay
SMITE 2 sees players go head-to-head in an immersive 5v5 battle arena, in which you can choose from an expansive roster of Gods. This roster includes iconic characters across different mythologies, from Zeus the lightning bearer and master of death Anubis, to the trickster Loki. Each God in the roster will feature their very own unique ability which you can wield to your advantage during the heat of battle.
SMITE 2 combines the action of a hero shooter with the rich strategy gameplay of a MOBA to create a unique experience every player will love. You’ll need to work side-by-side with your fellow teammates to perform combo moves, sneak up on enemies, and take down the opposing Titan.
What’s New in the Sequel
SMITE 2 will bring multiple changes to gameplay, graphics, and even the engine.
Whilst the fan-favourite original was developed utilising Unreal Engine 3, SMITE 2 has upgraded this to Unreal Engine 5 to create even more incredible opportunities for players and beautiful graphics. Advancements made to gameplay mechanics, such as movement or abilities, and even a redesigned Item Shop will make it easier for you to experience the gameplay and browse for even more tasty unlockables.
What’s more, the Item Shop will feature improved sorting methods, a new educational Auto-Build, and even changes made to God roles. Items will no longer be separated based on damage. Both Magical and Physical have said goodbye, and instead have been replaced with Strength and Intelligence. All of this means that regardless of what type of God you are playing, you will have access to the same item shop as everyone else.
24/7 Closed Alpha
On the 27th of August 2024, SMITE 2 will begin its 24/7 closed alpha testing period. The alpha testing is set to take place over multiple monthly weekends, allowing developers to listen to community feedback and make changes where it’s needed. A limited roster of gods will be available to play and certain features outside of the core gameplay may be inaccessible during this alpha testing period.
During this time, SMITE 2 will be available to play for free, with the option to purchase a Founders Edition if you desire, to allow you to experience all the fast-paced MOBA gameplay early. If you are interested in playing SMITE 2 during the alpha testing, here’s how you can register your interest.
- Steam: on the SMITE 2 Steam Page, you’ll need to select ‘Request Access’ after which you’ll be notified when access is granted.
- PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X/S, or Epic Games Store: head to SMITE2.com and click ‘Register for Alpha’. You’ll need to provide an email address, after which you’ll receive an email with a code once access is granted.
- SMITE 2 Founder’s Edition: if you purchase a SMITE 2 Founder’s Edition, you’ll receive instant access, along with a few extra goodies.
