Majestic Ducky ProjectD Outlaw65 Year of the Dragon Edition

This lunar year is the Year of the Dragon. To celebrate, Ducky has crafted a limited ProjectD Outlaw65 Pre-Built Keyboard Year of the Dragon Edition.

Unveiled at Computex 2024, this keyboard is truly a work of art. Excuse me, while I sit here and just stare at it lovingly. More than just its good looks, this is a ProjectD Outlaw65 keyboard – engineered to offer incredible customisation options and an unparalleled typing experience. Year of the Dragon

Now, I’m going to try to put into words just how beautiful this gaming keyboard is, but I figure I should let the pictures do the talking first.

The Ducky ProjectD Outlaw65 Year of the Dragon Edition is simply stunning. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese porcelain craft from the Yongle period in the Ming Dynasty, the design utilises the blue-on-white art style across the keyboard, from its keycaps to coiled cable. The dragon motifs infuse this keyboard with a sense of magnificence and the attention to detail is spectacular. Frankly, I would never get anything done because I would just be gazing at the dragon on the base. This was rendered utilising the full-colour anodising technique, which is a way to treat metal with colour that penetrates into the pores. The metal retains its strength and durability, while the colour pops!

That said, the keycaps are iconic, too. Made from a composite of PC and PBT plastics, only the top face is printed whilst the sides are completely transparent to allow for the ultimate RGB shine through. The spacebar and ESC key were crafted utilising a light-cured resin technology called stereolithography. This can produce detailed scenes in 360 degrees with full colour and transparency.

To complete the look, there is a blue tassel which conveys ancient, elegant charm and imperial power.

(TIL that it’s spelt “tassel”, not “tassle” – been getting that wrong for thirty years!)

Outlaw65

The Outlaw65 gaming keyboard comes from the Ducky ProjectD Series. These keyboards are all about customisation and premium build quality. Though, it feels criminal to adjust a keyboard such as this!

Typically, the Outlaw65 comes as a barebones keyboard, where you can pick and choose the materials you install within. The Year of the Dragon Edition, however, is a fully pre-built UK ISO keyboard and has been engineered to provide unmatched performance for typing and gaming.

The casing is CNC machined, sandblasted, polished, and anodised aluminium. These multiple stages of production ensure exceptional quality and a sleek finish. As such, this provides a strong and stable foundation for the keyboard on the whole.

Creating a unique feel as you type, the baseplate is manufactured from FR-4, a laminate-grade epoxy. This versatile thermoset plastic has a high stiffness to weight ratio, which will elevate your typing experience to new heights. What’s more, the hot-swappable switches are gasket mounted and cushioned by a layer of Poron rubber. This provides a dampening effect to soften the click.

Exclusive Cherry MX2A Purple Switches

As the Outlaw65 Year of the Dragon Edition is a pre-built gaming keyboard, everything comes pre-installed – rather than the traditional ProjectD DIY style. This includes the switches, which are the genuine Cherry MX Purple. These switches are all about a responsive, light, yet tactile touch.

They take just 30cN initial force, with 35cN to actuate and 55cN to bottom out. This is paired with a 2.0mm pre- and 4.0mm total travel distance, making them excellent for fast-paced gaming, speed typing, and so much more. Your fingers will simply dance over the keys! Plus, they are rated for 50 million clicks, for enhanced durability and longevity.
