Marvel’s Avengers is a brand new third-person action-adventure game published by Square Enix, and you can choose to play in the single-player story mode or team up with four other people for co-operative online gameplay. There’s six different Heros to play and master, all with their own abilities and strengths. Choose from Thor, Hulk, Captain America, Black widow, Ms Marvel and Iron man and experience the cinematic story as you play out your superhero dreams. There’s a flexible combat system, scaling difficulty and customisable gear and skills that can be unlocked and equipped to suit your playstyle. If you decide to play the game on PC you’ll be pleased to know it offers support for ultra-wide resolutions, unlocked framerates, fully-configurable controls, and multi-monitor setups.
When is it available?
Square Enix announced the new Marvel Avengers game in 2017, and now three years later we are weeks away from the release date on September 4th. The game is available on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and Microsoft Windows. If you purchase it on a console, you’ll also get a free copy if you upgrade to a PS5 or Xbox Series X and be able to take your saved game files with you. The pricing does vary across platforms, and Marvel Avengers costs £49.99 for the standard edition on PC and £69.99 for the deluxe edition. On console, it will set you back £59.99 for the standard edition and £79.99 for the deluxe edition. The Earth’s mightiest edition will set you back a whopping £209.99, but it does come with a 30cm Captain America statue plus other exclusive goodies.
How to take part in the Beta
The closed Beta on PS4 took place last weekend for people who had preordered the game, and this weekend there’s an open Beta for PS4 players. Virgin Media customers can also join the closed Beta by heading over to the VIRGIN MEDIA WEBSITE and entering customer details to claim a free code. If you don’t want to prepurchase the game and try it out for free, there will be an Open Beta for all platforms on August the 21st.
Is Marvel avengers any good?
I’ve not yet managed to try out the game and am patiently waiting for the open beta on PC. However, there are many other publications who have tried it out during its Beta phase and as we are only a few weeks away from the full release it’s more of a demo than a true beta. I’ve picked out some of the main positive comments and negative criticisms that have been mentioned across the board so you can get an idea of what to expect.
- “This beta’s campaign content had flashes of brilliance, and I am genuinely excited and optimistic to play the rest of that story.” -IGN
- ”We’re disappointed with the Marvel’s Avengers beta. We found it repetitive and boring to play, especially once the novelty of playing as the different superheroes had worn off. “ -TechRadar
- “My guess is that people who are big fans of Marvel and games like Ultimate Alliance will have a lot of fun with this. And I think people who are as into looters as I am will also be intrigued and certainly eager to see the final product.” -Forbes.
- “The longer I spent with the beta, the clearer it became that the combat offerings of each of the various heroes aren’t nearly as diverse as I expected it to be. Ms. Marvel, Hulk, Black Widow all have differences, but none so pronounced that it feels like I have to change the way I play.” – GamesRadar
What are the hardware requirements?
The specifications required to play Marvel Avengers are very reasonable considering this is a brand new triple-A game. It’s possible to play on a dual-core processor if using lower graphical settings and paired with at least 8GB of RAM. Recommended specifications are also very achievable on a reasonably priced gaming PC and will likely give a similar experience to playing on a console. To get the benefit of 60fps+ gameplay and play at higher resolutions it’s advisable to aim for higher than the recommended requirements and GPU’s like the RTX 2060 and RX 5600XT are ideal. The extra 30GB of HDD space needed for the recommended specifications is for the “high-resolution texture pack” that will help to really bump up the graphics on PC.
