NVIDIA graphics cards have been fine-tuned for gamers and creators alike, harnessing plenty of integrated cutting-edge technology to boost your performance. Our series ‘Inside Look’ has been designed to showcase all this powerful hardware.

This blog post is all about DLSS and DLAA.

What is NVIDIA DLSS?

DLSS, or Deep Learning Super Sampling, is NVIDIA’s own upscaling technology which has been designed to level up your in-game performance. Powered by AI, DLSS intelligently increases your frame rates, enhances image quality, and boosts your response times to optimise your games like never before.

DLSS harnesses the Tensor cores on your RTX GPU to render your games at a low resolution before inserting AI-generated frames to upscale your images to deliver photo-realistic visuals. Paired with built-in low latency tech and even Ray Reconstruction, DLSS can also notably reduce any lag, screen tearing, or image noise for enhanced in-game immersion.

There are three versions of DLSS:

  • DLSS 2.0
  • DLSS 3.0
  • DLSS 3.5

We’ve covered each of them, showcasing why you want them for gaming.

What is NVIDIA DLAA?

DLAA (Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing) utilises powerful AI to improve image quality by reducing any unwanted jagged edges. DLAA doesn’t involve any upscaling. Instead, your games are rendered at your native monitor resolution with the AI boosting visual quality and even your in-game FPS

DLAA has been fine-tuned to reduce the effect of aliasing in popular titles. Aliasing is where diagonal lines on your display create a blocky jagged edge, otherwise known as the ‘staircase effect’. DLAA bridges the gap between individual pixels to deliver smoother edges for better more ‘polished’ in-game images.

DLSS vs DLAA – What’s the Difference?

Both DLSS and DLAA have the same foundation. They are designed to help enhance visual quality and FPS through AI to deliver more immersive gameplay in your favourite AAA titles. However, you can’t use them simultaneously, it’s one or the other.

If FPS isn’t high on your priority list and you are more concerned about image quality, DLAA is for you. Alternatively, DLSS is perfect for those looking to maximise their FPS and gaming output whilst also reaping the benefits of realistic visuals.

DLSS and DLAA work on compatible RTX graphics cards without any specific resolution required. However, to get the most out of DLAA at your desired resolution, you’ll need to ensure you have the hardware to meet your demands.

How Can DLSS and DLAA Improve My Gaming?

NVIDIA DLSS and DLAA both allow you to get the most out of your favourite games, delivering you crystal-clear realistic visuals and heightened immersion. What makes DLSS and DLAA stand out is that you can decide which to use based on your needs, allowing you to further fine-tune your gaming to better suit your personal demands.
