Our Overclockers UK Academy is back with another in-depth guide!

Today, we’ll be showing you how to package your PC in case you need to send it back to us.

Watch How to Package Your PC

Don’t want to read how to package your PC? You can watch Briony, as she talks you through the necessary steps to safely return your PC to us.

Step by Step

Before you begin packing up your PC, we recommend you first back up all your precious data and files. This could be either on an online cloud service, such as Google Drive, or an external hard drive. Doing this means, if we need to replace or wipe your drive for any reason, all your files are safely stored elsewhere for you to access. If we do need to wipe or replace your drive, we will usually get in touch.

In addition to this, we won’t be able to access your PC properly if it’s protected with any passwords and pins. As such, we recommend you disable all your passwords, so we can gain access to your PC. If you can’t disable your passwords, be sure to write them down, and send with your PC.

Prepare Your PC

To begin with, you need to unplug everything from your PC. This includes power connectors, Wi-Fi adapters, and any peripherals you have.

If you are returning your PC as an unwanted return, please note any accessories, manuals, and cables must be included in the original packaging. Alternatively, if you are sending it back for a repair or upgrade, we only want the system back. Be sure to keep all your accessories separate and stored somewhere safe whilst your PC is with us, so you don’t unexpectedly lose something.

Packaging

After this, it’s time to start thinking about packaging.

We recommend filling the interior of your PC with a shock absorbent material to help protect it during shipping. You can use the original packaging material we sent out with the system. If you no longer have it, however, you will have to find alternative materials to protect the interior of your PC. This could be bubble wrap, newspaper, or something similar.

When you are packing the interior, be sure to pay close attention to the cooler, CPU, and graphics cards, to ensure these are securely in place with plenty of packaging around them.

Next, you need to pack the exterior of your PC. This could be with the original or an alternative material that you’ve sourced, such as bubble wrap or foam.

Once your PC is safely packaged, it’s time to put your PC into its original box, and then a large exterior box. We recommend you also include some additional packaging material around your PC box in any gaps, to keep it securely in place and stop it from moving around during transport.

To secure it, we recommended a hefty amount of parcel tape around the box.

Shipping Your PC Back to Us

Now it’s time to ship your PC back to us.

If you are in the UK mainland and sending your PC back for repairs, we’ll send DPD out to you to pick up your system and deliver it back to us, free of charge. When you arrange your return, DPD will give you an hour time slot for collection to make it a stress-free process.

Alternatively for unwanted returns, refunds, or anyone returning a PC from another country, you will need to arrange your own courier. We recommend that you opt for a tracked service with suitable insurance to cover the cost.

That’s it! Your PC is now packaged up and ready to come back to us safe and sound.

Don’t forget if you do come across any issues whilst trying to prepare your PC and ship it back to us, our team of PC experts to available to call or chat online Mon – Fri 9 am – 5 pm.
