The P28 UNI fan is the first performance-oriented fan that Lian Li has added to their outstanding UNI fan lineup.
The P28 utilises Lian Li’s innovative daisy chain technology, where you only need one cable to control multiple fans. In addition to this amazing design, the P28 fans have received several updates to improve their capabilities, making them ideal for both air and water cooling. What’s more, these fans are the first UNI fans where RGB is optional!
Fan Design Evolved
Lian Li has gone back to the drawing board with the P28, to figure out how to maximise a 120mm fans performance. They started by making the fan thicker, instead of having a standard depth of 25mm, the P28 is 28mm deep. Don’t worry though, you won’t need proprietary hardware to secure it in place, as the screw holes have been indented. This lets you utilise 25mm screws, although Lian Li do include a set of 33.8mm screws for those who need to attach the P28 to a radiator through a bracket.
The fan blades of the Lian Li P28 have undergone a major revision and are now manufactured from an innovative liquid-crystal polymer (LCP). By utilising this very strong material, the impeller can run at high speeds with minimal vibrations. Thanks to this change, vibrations are reduced, and as such Lian Li has been able to make the tolerances as tight as possible. In fact, the distance between the edge of the fan blade and the frame is just 0.6mm!
This has obviously led to the impeller having an increased surface area, which boosts the capabilities of the fan, while minimising noise levels. The P28 can achieve a maximum airflow of 92CFM, with a static pressure of 4.79mmH2O, while only producing 32.1dB(A) of sound.
In addition to the groundbreaking choice of materials, the motor of the P28 has also received some love. The impeller has been secured to the shaft with a full metal bearing shell, and the shaft has been reinforced with copper shielding. These updates, alongside classic fan features such as rubber contact pads on the frame and fluid dynamic bearings aid in minimising vibrations.
P28 Fans Easy to Install and Control
As the P28 is part of the UNI fan family, it shares the same interlocking mechanism which makes connecting one fan to another a breeze. As the fan contacts are located on the frame of the fans themselves, you can control both with a single cable. In total three fans can be connected together to form a cluster of fans. Even better, the keylocks can be removed with a quick twist and pull. By doing this, you can mount your fans flush against a surface, without interfering with other hardware such as radiator fittings.
With the addition of a second cable, you can daisy chain a second cluster of fans to the first, allowing for a total of six fans to be managed. The single cable can then either be plugged directly into your motherboard or to an L-Connect Hub. This allows for easy software management of fan operation, through a program such as Lian Li’s L-Connect 3.
But that’s not all, the P28 allows you to regulate the fan speeds manually. With the fan speed controller (included with the triple pack) you’ll have three distinct modes to choose from. Each mode is ideal for different usage scenarios, including a Silent mode which minimises noise.
Switching between each of these settings is as simple as pressing a button. What’s more, you can position this controller almost anywhere within your chassis, as it features a strong magnet.
Mode | Silent (L) | Normal (M) | Performance (H) |
Fan Speed (RPM) | 200-1300 | 200-2200 | 200-2600 |
Airflow (CFM) | 44.94 | 77.76 | 92 |
Static Pressure (mmH2O) | 1.3 | 3.62 | 4.79 |
Noise dB(A) | 20.4 | 28.1 | 32.1 |
Add That Touch of Flair
Lian Li’s P28 UNI fans maintain the gorgeous styling of the UNI fan family, in fact, this is the first that Lian Li has made the logo and rear plate of the fan hub clear. This shows that they are so proud of the P28, that they want you to be able to see every aspect of it including the inner workings.
Subtle PC builders rejoice as the P28 does not come with RGB lighting, making them the perfect choice for many enthusiasts who don’t want their gaming PC lit up like the Blackpool Tower.
But if you do want to light your case up like the 4th of July, never fear as Lian Li has your back, with the P28 Side ARGB Strips. These strips are a simple way to add beautiful RGB lighting to your fans. The side aluminium panels of the P28 can be popped off, and in their place, the ARGB strip can clip on. What’s more, each module can also be daisy-chained together, just like the UNI fans! Something to consider if you are building a small form factor gaming PC, adding an ARGB strip to your fan does increase its width, with two strips added your P28 fan will measure 136mm wide.
Adjusting the ten vivid LEDs of each module is easy. You can either plug the single cable to either an L-Connect Hub or directly to an ARGB header on your motherboard. From here you can utilise software such as Lian Li’s powerful L-Connect 3 to control every aspect of the lighting.
