Our PC Modding with OcUK series is back and we’ve got another helpful guide all about modding your computer. In this article, we’re showcasing replacement panels, covering what they are, all the tools you need, and how to install your shiny new case panels.

What are Replacement Panels?

Replacement panels are exactly as they sound. With plenty of different options to choose from, including mesh and tempered glass, you can freely swap out your existing case panels to ones that better suit your aesthetic or needs.

There are some limitations to replacement panels. The primary of which is that there isn’t a one panel fits all solution. With that said most manufacturers have designed a range of replacement panels to suit specific models of PC cases.

Different Types of Replacement Panels

To suit a variety of needs and aesthetics, you can find a range of replacement panels. This includes:

  • Tempered glass – allows you to see the interior of your case to show off your hardware or RGB lighting.
  • Mesh – enhances airflow by circulating even more air throughout your case to help keep temperatures down.
  • Noise Dampened – reduces excess noise pollution from your components.

What Do You Need to Replace Your PC Case Panels

To successfully replace your PC case panels, you’ll need to have a few things handy. This includes:

  • A Phillips screwdriver
  • Bowl for your screws (optional)
  • New case panel(s)
  • Your existing PC

How to Replace

To replace your case panel, you’ll first need to turn off the PC, and remove the existing ones. This method can vary depending on your case and what panel you wish to replace.

Side Panels

If your chassis has a locking mechanism, there will typically be a button located on the back of your case. You simply need to press this button to release the panel and gently remove it. Alternatively, your case may have thumb screws. With a Phillips head screwdriver, you’ll need to carefully unscrew all of these before you can slide the panels off.

Front Panels

If you are looking to replace the front panels, you’ll typically need to carefully pull the existing front panel off to remove it.

How to Install Your Replacement

Installing the replacement panels can also vary on your case and panel type.

For models with the locking mechanism, you’ll need to take care and put the panel in place, before gently pushing it in until you hear the panel lock. On the other hand, if your case features screws, you’ll need to carefully slide the panel back on and tighten each screw using a screwdriver.

Alternatively, if you are replacing the front panel, you’ll simply need to line the new one up and gently push it into place.
