When the Phanteks NV7 and NV5 launched, did you look at them and go “I love it, but I just want more of them”? Well then, look no further, because your wish has been granted. The Phanteks NV9 is finally here and it’s everything you love about the NV Series, just more.
Bigger is Better
So, when it came to the NV9, I suspect that those clever boffins over at Phanteks took the phenomenal NV7 and did a bit of CSI computer tom foolery – hit the zoom and enhance! This has resulted in a larger case. In fact, the NV9 measures 615 x 280 x 575mm (H x W x D), compared to the NV7’s 586 x 253 x 532mm.
With that much extra space, just imagine what you can build with this PC case. Fancy getting yourself a shiny new Threadripper? The NV9 has space for the E-ATX motherboards compatible with this cutting-edge CPU. It can even support motherboards up to 280mm wide! How about a chonky GPU, such as the NVIDIA RTX 4090? With 490mm of clearance for graphics cards and eight expansion slots available, even massive GPUs will have plenty of room to breathe.
Just the Right Amount of Style
The Phanteks NV9 may have grown larger, but it still maintains the looks of its smaller siblings. This includes an uninterrupted view of your gaming hardware, provided by the near-seamless tempered glass panels. To achieve this, the NV9 has no supporting pillars or struts to reinforce the panel. Instead, they are secured in place at the top and bottom of the case frame.
In addition to this, the NV9 draws the eye through clever use of subtle RGB lighting. The motherboard tray is positioned in the middle of the case, and is then surrounded by two D-RGB lighting strips which serve as a frame, turning it into a piece of modern art. You can enhance this effect further by installing RGB fans in the NV9. The mounts are positioned in such a way that they enhance the framing effect.
Now what really stands out, is the absence of cable clutter. The NV9 provides plenty of options through which to mask your cable runs, both inside and outside the case. Inside the case, there is plenty of room at the back of the case to squirrel away any excess lengths of wire. Additionally, there are Velcro straps for collecting cables into single neat runs, and the storage door which can be swung in to place to cover any number of sins. Meanwhile, the outside of the case has a few innovations to conceal everything from USB to power cables. This includes a door that hides the rear I/O, and a range of cable channels that direct them to where they can be best hidden away.
Even More Cooling
With its larger size, the NV9 offers some of the best options for cooling you may ever find. To start with, radiator support. How about having the ability to mount up to three 420mm radiators simultaneously? Because the NV9 can do that! On top of that, it still has space to install a cheeky 280mm reservoir to the rear panel. Thus, making this an outstanding PC case for a custom water-cooling setup. This table illustrates what radiator configurations are possible with the NV9:
Radiator Position | 120mm Radiators | 140mm Radiators |
Top | Up to 360 | Up to 420 |
Side | Up to 480 | Up to 420 |
Bottom | Up to 360 | Up to 420 |
Rear | Up to 240 | Up to 280 |
Let’s, move on to fans. If you wanted, you could equip your build with multiple 140mm fans. Up to eleven, in fact. If you choose to go for 120mm fans though, you can squeeze an extra one in, for a total of twelve. Check out the follow table which shows the options available for fan placement:
Fan Position | 120mm | 140mm |
Top | 3 | 3 |
Side | 4 | 3 |
Bottom | 3 | 3 |
Rear | 2 | 2 |
Taking Your Lighting to Another Level
Now you may look at the NV9 like Oliver going to workhouse master and saying, “Please, sir, I want some more.” Well, there is more! In fact, you can upgrade the NV9 with a DRGB lighting kit, making it look even more gorgeous.
This kit consists of four DRGB strips that can be mounted around the edges of the tempered glass panels. These help with the overall framing effect, drawing more attention to your prized hardware. Additionally, these lighting strips can be connected to the NV9’s DRGB controller, allowing them to be synced with the rest of your RGB components. Create a unique aesthetic!
