The first Monster Hunter Stories game is back, fully remastered and now voiced!
Initially launched in 2016 on the Nintendo 3DS, Monster Hunter Stories is available to play for the first time on PC. This CAPCOM classic brings the same gameplay we loved from the original as well as new features to the table. We’re taking a closer look at everything MHS, so grab a cuppa and a biscuit!
Monster Hunter Stories Gameplay
Stepping away from the traditional gameplay of the Monster Hunter series, you play as a Rider rather than a Hunter. Instead of only defeating monstrous beasts, you befriend and fight foes alongside them. These Monsties bring powerful attacks to the turn-based combat, and you can raise them to grow even stronger.
The Black Blight Appears
While you hail from a village of riders, your adventures take you into the world of Hunters. Overcoming trials and tribulations, you need to find a way to live and work together, despite having very different lifestyles. Darker forces are on the horizon.
The Black Blight threatens the entire world and peaceful living. Both Riders and Hunters need to band together to stop this calamity. There are long kept secrets, the true meaning of Kinship, and powerful treasures to discover to help you in your quest.
Deepen Your Bonds
As a Rider, your greatest weapon is the bond with your Monsties. Various iconic monsters from the Monster Hunter series are available to team up with, including the Zinogre, Nargacuga, and Lagiacrus. On your travels, you can use your Monsties’ abilities in both combat and the field, and you’ll find more monster eggs to hatch and nurture. Combat utilises a strategic battle system that is easy to master, deploying Speed, Power, and Technical attacks to overcome your foe’s attack pattern.
To unlock the full potential of your Monstie, you need to perform the Rite of Channeling ritual and awaken dormant abilities. As you raise your Monstie, you can take on more fearsome enemies and even show off your Monsties against other players in online battles!
What’s New for the Remaster?
As a remaster, Monster Hunter Stories brings some new features with it. In addition to being ported to PC and other consoles, this edition includes all monsters added in updates to the original, such as Kushala Daora, Teostra, and Rajang. The endgame content has been expanded, as has character editing, for a more complete experience.
More than 200 pieces of concept art has been added, too, including some that have never been seen before! There are also numerous music tracks, with some even supporting surround sound.
Best of all, Monster Hunter Stories is now fully voice acted in Japanese and English. This addition truly brings the story to life and makes gameplay all the more immersive.
What Platforms Can I Play Monster Hunter Stories On?
The Monster Hunter Stories remaster will be available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch. Even though there is an online PvP mode, it looks like crossplay is not supported.
