The eighth main instalment in the incredibly popular Resident Evil series launched on May 7th 2021.
Resident Evil Village comes with an all-new storyline, detailed graphics and terrifying first-person gameplay. Familiar faces of the series make an appearance alongside horrifying new foes.
What is Resident Evil Village About?
The storyline in Resident Evil Village follows the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Once again players take on the role of Ethan Winters to experience a creative narrative in a frightening new location.
The story begins by showing you that Ethan has finally found peace with his wife Mia. The couple managed to create a home, away from the nightmares of the previous game. However, that wouldn’t make for a very exciting tale and unfortunately for Ethan, tragedy strikes once again when the family is kidnapped. The game brings you up close and personal with brand new foes in a strange European village. Chris Redfield even makes an appearance in a more sinister role.
The main story follows Ethan as he tries to save his daughter from a 9ft tall vampire, called Lady Dimitrescu. A terrifying, yet iconic, foe to face. What’s more, the eponymous Village is more than just a location. It is a character in its own right, living and breathing mysteries for Ethan to uncover and the terrors to escape.
With RE7 bringing up so many questions, this game is here to answer them. Better yet, this is also the longest RE Engine game to date, so you’ll have oodles of horrifying content to sink your teeth into!
Winters’ Expansion
Since its release, Resident Evil Village has gained even more gameplay, with the Winters’ Expansion. This added a third-person mode, to enjoy the story from a whole new perspective. What’s more, three new characters have been added to the Mercenaries Additional Orders. This includes Lady Dimitrescu, who becomes playable through this expansion.
Finally, you can experience Shadows of Rose – a new scenario starring Ethan’s daughter all grown up.
What Platforms Can I Play Resident Evil Village On?
Resident Evil Village is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It launched back on May 7th 2021.
Resident Evil Village Official Specifications
Resident Evil Village uses the tried and trusted RE Engine that was developed and built for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The engine can produce photo-realistic visuals with high attention to detail. Capcom chose to use it once again for this Resident Evil title. Because the RE Engine has been around for a while, it will run incredibly well on inexpensive PC hardware.
The official system requirements are listed below, and Capcom has even included the level of performance you can expect to achieve for each. The minimum requirements will still get you 60FPS at 1080p with the graphical setting tuned to performance. Recommended is also ideal for 60FPS and 1080p, but with higher quality graphics enabled. Resident Evil Village does support ray tracing on both AMD and NVIDIA GPUs, so the hardware needed for RTX is also listed.

Will My PC Run Resident Evil Village?
Capcom has done reasonably well with this spec table, and it gives us a good idea of what sort of PC is needed to get the best experience. Unfortunately, the table isn’t fully detailed and the ray tracing requirements are only for 4K resolution. Thankfully, a demo on PC is available, which will give you a chance to test how well it runs.
Processor and Memory:
The minimum specifications show that this game should be easy to run even on older hardware. Consequently, you’ll be able to play at a smooth 60FPS, 1080p on a mid-range PC that’s around 5 years old. However, the visuals will take a hefty hit, which is sure to ruin some of the immersion. The best way to play a horror game is when it feels real with all the textures and detail maxed out. The recommended list includes a couple of six-core processors with a half-decent boost clock speed, and these should even handle 4K. As with most other games released in the past few years, you’ll want at least 16GB of RAM and a potent graphics card.
Graphics and Storage:
If you’re not interested in ray tracing then a GTX 1070 or RX 5700 will suffice. Both cards have 8GB of VRAM and a more modern equivalent is the GTX 1660S, however, it does only have 6GB of VRAM. On the other hand, to play at higher resolutions or with ray tracing enabled you will need a more recent graphics card. For example, to max out the graphics quality settings, Capcom recommends the NVIDIA RTX 3070 or AMD RX 6900XT. At a lower FPS or resolution, an RTX 2070 or 6700XT will handle ray tracing just fine. As a large game, you need to ensure you have ample space on your storage drive. What’s more, we always recommend installing your games on an SSD rather than a traditional hard drive, as they are much faster and keep loading times to a minimum.
