We are back with our monthly Indie Showcase, where we pick one of the many gems produced by independent game developers and make sure it gets some well-deserved time in the sun. For September, we are taking a closer look at the playcation banger… Dave the Diver!
What is Dave the Diver?
Dave the Diver by MINTROCKET is a recent addition to the cosy, life sim gaming genre – with a much-deserved warm welcome. (Seriously, 50K+ overwhelmingly positive reviews on Steam at the time of writing!) In this casual RPG, you play Dave who dives by day and runs a sushi restaurant by night.
This game is set around the Blue Hole, an ever-changing ocean filled with fish, turtles, and sea monsters. Each day, you’ll explore this perilous deep armed with your trusty harpoon for fish to serve at your restaurant and treasures that may lurk in these waters. Be careful not to run out of oxygen, though!
With its blend of 2D and 3D pixel art, Dave the Diver creates a beautifully deep location while retaining its simplicity. Pair that with the satisfying management/RPG hybrid mechanics and eccentric characters bursting with whimsy, and this is a great way to spend an evening or weekend gaming.
Something’s Coming…
At Sony’s State of Play, it was announced that Dave the Diver is heading to the PlayStation 5 in May 2024, and something big is following him. Oh yes, Dave the Diver has collaborated with Godzilla. The Venn Diagram where creature feature fans and cosy gamers intersect are going to be very happy! Check out the trailer below. (There’s also a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo from Sharktopus!)
