Grab your torches, tune in the radio, and get yourself comfortable, because it’s time we head back to Silent Hill.
It’s been ten years since the last full release of a Silent Hill game (yes, we too lament the loss of PT). But finally, Konami released news about many upcoming projects during yesterday’s Silent Hill Transmission. We got to see not one, not two, but three new games that are in development! This comes alongside the exciting news of a feature film also being in the works. Finally, we also learned of an exciting project that will bring many of us Silent Hill fans together in an interactive experience with dire consequences.
Long Awaited Remake
The night kicked off with the worst-kept secret, a remake is coming of the 2001 classic Silent Hill 2. In a gorgeous trailer, we learned that Silent Hill 2 remake is being developed by Bloober Team. This Polish studio has been responsible for many recent horror classics including Layers of Fear, Blair Witch, and The Medium.
After the trailer ended, we were introduced to Selina, who would guide us through all the announcements, and Motoi Okamoto, the producer in charge of the Silent Hill series. Together they discussed how it’s been 21 years since the original game came out and how the remake has been in production for around three years. Many of the original creators, such as concept artist Masahiro Ito and composer Akira Yamaoka, are returning to ensure this is a faithful remake.
Silent Hill 2 remake is available now to Wishlist on Steam. Unfortunately, no details were provided on a release date nor price. We do, however, have the official recommended specifications to play Silent Hill 2 Remake on PC.

Intriguing New Silent Hill Story
During the Transmission, they also announced a totally new game, Silent Hill Townfall. This game is being jointly developed by No Code, the creators of Stories Untold, and Observation. Silent Hill Townfall is being jointly published by Konami and Annapurna Interactive who recently brought us the amazing Stray.
Not many details were given about this new title, but we did get to hear from Jon McKellan, the creative director at No Code. He talked about his memories of playing the original game on the PlayStation 1 in 1999 and that it is an honour to be able to work on a new title for the Silent Hill series. He mentioned that this game will respect the source material, but tweak it for something new. Finally, he revealed that although they can’t show off anything more than the trailer for now, in the new year they’ll be back with more details.
So, until Konami brings us more scares… I mean news, I’m going to curl up and pull a blanket over my head. And I can’t think of a more comfortable way to sit out and wait than in one of our amazing noblechairs.

Heading to Japan
Finally, to round out the new gaming titles currently being worked on in the Silent Hill universe is the beautiful yet horrifying Silent Hill f. Details are very sparse for this game, with just a trailer being released. (If you suffer from Trypophobia maybe skip out on watching this).
What we learned is that this game moves away from the traditional Silent Hill setting of a modern American town. Instead, we find ourselves in Japan in the 1960s, following a schoolgirl making her way through a town that is being overrun by mysterious red vines and flowers. We also learned that this game is being developed by Neobards Entertainment, the developers responsible for the recent Resident Evil spin-offs Resistance and RE:Verse. Furthermore, the story for this game is being written by Ryukishi07, known for his works in visual novels dealing with psychological and supernatural horror.
Now, this trailer is both stunning and horrifying. As such you’ll need a monitor that is capable of doing it justice. So why not pick up an amazing 4K monitor to enjoy all the sickening details in beautiful ultra-high definition?

More than just games
Besides these amazing gaming titles, Konami also introduced several other projects that are currently in production. A brand-new feature film and a real-time interactive series, alongside some amazing new merchandise.
Rui Naito, Konami’s assistant producer in charge of IP and cross-media development, revealed the latest Silent Hill movie. Return to Silent Hill is being produced by Victor Hadida and directed by Christophe Gans. These names should excite Silent Hill fans, as they were responsible for the very faithful adaptation in 2006. They plan to adapt the story of Silent Hill 2, where the main character returns to find his great love but only finds a nightmare.
There was another more mysterious announcement. Jacob Navok, CEO of Genvid Technologies, announced that they are working on a live real-time interactive series, with Bad Robot Games, Behaviour, and DJ2 Entertainment. Within this story, we the audience will be able to make choices that influence the outcomes. Oh, and did I mention there’s no reset? So, we’d better be careful if we want everyone to survive! Sign up today on ascension.com for updates on this exciting project that goes live in 2023.
Finally, many pieces of exciting merchandise were announced. This includes figurines, clothing, dioramas, and plushies. But best of all is the coin bank of the iconic ending scene where James discovers that everything, he has gone through was because of a Shiba Inu!

I kind of wish companies wouldn’t do so many remakes these days.
Technically, remakes are not new stories because the story is just being used again from an older game, or whatever it happens to be. That suggests to me that these developers aren’t all that keen on trying to come up with something new, so they rely on nostalgia. But it’s a huge problem with Hollywood, the record labels, and the gaming industry today.
The Resident Evil remakes from Capcom were generally well received. But you cannot deny they still had way too much cut content.
A remake!
How exciting!
