Ten More Gaming Easter Eggs

Last year we showed off just a few of our favourite gaming easter eggs to kickstart our Easter weekend celebrations.

Well, we’ve decided to do it again! We’ve picked out another ten incredible gaming easter eggs, to get you ready for the eggs-cellent festivities. Let’s get cracking!

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City & Easter

Arguably the best one on our list is found in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

A literal easter egg…

Now I’m not giving you any hints on which building, but if you go to a top of a building, jump off, you’ll automatically go through the window of a neighbouring building. Only to find a pedestal, with a large chocolate egg engraved with ‘Happy Easter!’.

Great now, I’m thinking about chocolate…

Stardew Valley & Howl’s Moving Castle

Hear me out, I know we included Stardew Valley in our last list, but this farming simulator, is just jam packed full of tasty gaming easter eggs.

The one that’s made this year’s, is the Howl’s Moving Castle-inspired Rarecrow.

For those who haven’t been educated in the world of Studio Ghibli (I’m sorry, but we just can’t be friends), Rarecrow Number 1, imitates Turnip-Head from the film, How’s Moving Castle.

Battlefield 4 & The Megalodon

Is a first-person shooter where you’d expect to see an ancient species of shark? No, me neither…

In Battlefield 4’s Naval Strike DLC, you can trigger a special aquatic event, in which a giant Megalodon will appear. There are a few specific criteria you need to meet to unlock this easter egg.

You have to be on the Nansha Strike map with at least ten players, and you all need to venture out to the deep blue to the lone buoy.

The Sims

Across The Sims franchise, there are many hidden references to past games, famous and literary characters, along with the game’s creator, Will Wright.  The easiest one to spot is the television shows.

Now we’ve all made our sims watch television whilst we wait for that neighbour to suddenly get trapped in a pool with no ladder… However, have you ever actually watched sims television?

In the Sims 4, when your sims watch their favourite cooking or children’s show, you’ll be able to see footage from The Sims 3. Similar to this, in the Sims 3, all of the shows feature iconic characters from The Sims 2.

Portal & Half-Life

Portal is full of brain-tugging puzzles and teasers. One of which is a reference to Half-Life.

Whilst you take a leisurely stroll through the offices in the Aperture Science Labatories, why not take a closer look at the keyboards?

You’ll soon find that a few of them have yellow keys. Specifically, the letters, ‘A’, ‘S’, ‘D’, ‘E’, ‘R’, ‘H’, ‘N’, ‘I’, and ‘P’. Unscrambled, these letters spell ‘Adrian Shepard’, the main protagonist in Half-Life.

The Last of Us & Naughty Dog

Before the apocalypse, in seems developers Naughty Dog got involved in the party business. Specifically, pinatas?

In The Last of Us Part 1, as Joel searches around the apartment in Pittsburgh, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of several pinatas of some familiar faces – Nathan Drake, Jax, and Daxter. All infamous characters from other Naughty Dog games.

Spider-Man & The Avengers

In Marvel’s Spider-Man, as you swing across the streets of New York City, you’ll soon stumble across some familiar MCU landmarks.

This includes the Avenger’s Tower, Stark’s Department of Damage Control, and even Fogwell’s Gym.

Diablo 3 and … Cows?

In Diablo III, there is a secret ‘Not the Cow’ level, inspired by the one found in Diablo II.

This mysterious portal can only be opened once per game, and inside are hordes of Infernal Bovines. You can hack and slash your way through these deadly cows to retrieve precious and unique items, including the T-Bone Steaks and plenty of gold.

If you can make it to the end, you’ll trigger the ‘Tipping Point’ and come across the boss of this Bovine Relam, The Cow Queen and the Cow King’s ghost.

God of War: Ragnarök & Other Iconic PlayStation Games

In God of War: Ragnarök, there are numerous references to other iconic PlayStation games in Kvasir’s poems.

This includes Ratchet & Clank, Uncharted, Horizon Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, along with The Last of Us.

In the end… the Cake was a Lie

We’ve all been tempted by GLaDOS and her promise of cake.

However, a not-so-subtle easter egg in Portal reveals that the cake is a lie…

In Test Chamber 16, you’ll soon discover some of Rattman’s scrawlings on the wall. One of which reads, ‘the cake is a lie’ over and over again.
