Alakazam! Another staple in the gaming industry will be making its sudden disappearance in the coming months – the XBOX 360 store.

You’ve only got a few short weeks to secure your ownership of classic XBOX 360 titles, with some vanishing altogether into the deadly void. It’s no time for panicking yet, for we’re here with all the details you need, from the date of death to which games will be disappearing.

Why is the XBOX 360 Store Closing?

As the XBOX 360 is now considered a legacy console, Microsoft has decided to stop supporting the online store and marketplace from July 29th 2024. You’ll have until then to ensure you purchase any games that are still available to download. Any games or DLC that you have already purchased can still be downloaded even after the shutdown.

In addition to this, support is also being stopped for Microsoft Movies & TV, meaning you won’t be able to watch any content via this app.

What Games Will We Lose Access to?

Any game that is compatible with the newer consoles, such as the XBOX One and XBOX Series X/S, can still be purchased. However, any exclusives to the XBOX 360 such as games, trials, add-ons, avatar items, or apps, will all be removed.

Unfortunately, this means an estimated 220 games that don’t feature compatibility will be lost to the void. The highlights include:

  • Aegis Wing
  • Burnout Crash
  • Crimson Alliance
  • The Dishwasher: Dead Samurai
  • South Park: Let’s Go Tower Defense Play
  • Call of Duty Classic

The demise of the XBOX 360 store is another prime example of our favourite games suddenly disappearing without a trace. We’ve covered this strange phenomenon in our showcase, highlighting a few of our faves that have vanished.

Hope is Not Lost

It’s not all doom and gloom for XBOX has confirmed that XBOX Gaming is coming to Amazon Fire TV. If you have an Amazon Fire Stick, you can now play your favourite XBOX games via the cloud. No console is needed!

What Game Will You Miss the Most?
