As big fans of extreme overclocker, Ian ‘8Pack’ Parry, here at Overclockers UK, we’ve decided to call this 8/8, ‘8Pack Day’.
We’re celebrating everything 8Pack has achieved in his 20 years of overclocking and designing incredible elite gaming PCs. Reminiscing about his humble beginnings, records, and powerful PCs.
In the Beginning…
An avid gamer, 8Pack bought his very first PC to enjoy playing games such as Half-Life and Battlefield. It was his keen interest in taking things to the extreme that led to him experimenting with overclocking.
He started by testing the speeds of his own system that he bought from an electrical store. Running 3D mark 01, he tested how this PC compared to others. After it performed poorly, he began researching overclocking and testing different BIOS settings to achieve better performance. Before experimenting with water, phase change, and eventually liquid nitrogen cooling.
8Pack began his overclocking career by posting his results on global overclocking websites, such as HWbot. His top scores and points would later earn him the title of best overclocker in the United Kingdom. After which he was headhunted to help fine-tune trading systems for financial companies. The parts for which, he purchased from Overclockers UK.
Our team wanted to know why 8Pack was purchasing this volume of parts. It turned out he was binning hardware and building crazy fast Trading systems and setting OC records. Seeing his drive for ultimate performance and determination to succeed OCUK approached 8Pack to see if he was interested in designing the world’s fastest gaming and business PCs.
Thus, 8Pack joined with OCUK in the pursuit of PC perfection. Using rigorous testing and validation, along with his expert knowledge, he engineered bespoke systems that break boundaries. Aiming for peak performance and limitless possibilities, he crafted the 8Pack and Infin8 range of extraordinary gaming PCs, along with an exclusive line of powerful PC hardware. Each PC in his range continues to evolve and expand.
Breaking Records
After successfully becoming the best overclocker in the UK, 8Pack earned his first world global record after beating K|ngp|n by overclocking an X79 based system with a Nvidia 680 Lightening in 3D mark Vantage.
Throughout his work with OCUK, 8Pack has taken part in both launching products and overclocking competitions across the world. His determination in overclocking paid dividends when he took the title of the world’s best overclocker in 2015 and held for three years!
In 2013, he completed live world records for overclocking at the launch of NVIDIA’s 780 series of GPUs at GamesCon. What’s more, in 2019, his system, the SuperNova XL was showcased at the Computex Intel launch event for the i9-9980XE Skylake CPU.
Over the course of his twenty years of overclocking, 8Pack has held nearly 100 world records in total. He is the only person to ever achieve over 4000 points at the top of the world rankings on HWbot and even posting 15 world records in one day!
Some of his most memorable record-breaking competitions include:
- Computex in 2013 where he broke the world SuperPI 32M record at the Intel overclocking contest and thus won the contest.
- Gigabyte Retro OC 2014 contest where he won 1st place. Which involved older benches such as 3D Mark 01, 05 and 06
- AsRock overclocking contest in 2014 where he won 1st place. This involved 3D mark Firestrike and 3D Mark 01.
- Galax overclocking competition held in Wuhan China in 2014 using the Galax 980 HOF 8Pack edition graphics and running several 3D benchmarks.
