The Leadex series marks the manufacturer’s successful entry into the true high-end segment: With outstanding performance at low noise levels, the Leadex family has been setting the benchmark for performance power supplies since the end of 2013. With the brand-new Leadex III series Super Flower is now following up and renewing the fully modular 80PLUS gold series of power supplies. Both the optics and the technology under the hood have been further improved to set the gold standard in the performance segment in the future.
The features of the Super Flower Leadex III 80PLUS power supplies:
- Fully modular power supply with 80PLUS Gold certification
- Three operating modes for quiet and efficient cooling
- Two semi-passive modes for efficient standard or overclocking scenarios
- Quiet 135 mm fan with Fluid Dynamic Bearing Technology
- Completely modular cable management
- Seven-year manufacturer warranty
- High-quality capacitors and semiconductors
- Active PFC, over- and under voltage protection, circuit breaker against overload and overheating
Low noise thanks to two semi-passive modes
The new Leadex III platform is now available under the hood of all models ranging from 550 to 850 Watts – all developed and produced in house of course. In comparison to the series’ predecessors, the fan has undergone a series of optimisations in order to minimise the amount of noise produced, the Fluid Dynamic Bearing fans played a particularly important role in making this possible. A switch on the rear can now be used to select between three different cooling modes instead of the previous two. The active cooling also enables the FDB fan to always run at optimal speeds.
Additionally, there are two semi-passive modes that depend on two different temperature thresholds: The fan then deactivates when temperatures are low and at low- to medium loads. At the first stage, called ECO 0, the fan kicks in as soon as the temperatures are between 62 and 68°C. The second stage is called ECO 0. When temperatures fall below 47 and 53°C again, the fan stops again. In ECO 1, the temperature threshold at which the fans start is 42 to 48°C, with the lower threshold being 27 to 33°C. Due to the low fan speeds and the FDB bearings, the power supply remains extremely quiet even in active operation. Compared to classic ball bearing designs, FDB bearings are much quieter, while they also far exceed regular bearings in terms of their service life.
Modern technology, High-Quality Components
All Leadex III Gold are 80PLUS-Gold certified and are guaranteed to achieve over 92 percent efficiency at medium load. At a low load of 20 percent, at least 90 percent efficiency is achieved, and 89 percent at full load. This means that third generation Leadex power supplies will continue to be among the most economical PSUs far into the future.
In order to achieve this remarkably high efficiency, Super Flower relies on state-of-the-art technology: Like its predecessors, the Leadex III platform utilises LLC resonance conversion in the primary range and DC-DC conversion for the +3.3- and +5-volt rails. This form of independent voltage regulation ensures that the output voltages always remain close to the target, even in demanding test scenarios (e.g. asymmetrical load). If required, the entire rated power can be called up as a +12-volt voltage. In combination with the low residual ripple Leadex III are therefore particularly suitable for high-end configurations or where overclocking is a priority.
When ordering semiconductors and capacitors, Super Flower clearly focuses on quality: Only 105 degree electrolytic capacitors of Japanese brands and polymer solid capacitors are used on the motherboard. Additional 105-degree electrolytic capacitors of Taiwanese A-class brands are used on the connection board in order to provide modular cable management options. In combination with the sophisticated fan control, the long-life FDB fan achieves an average operating life of over 100,000 hours. With protection against over- and undervoltage (OVP, UVP), short circuit (SCP), overload (OPP), overheating (OTP) and overcurrent (OCP on +3.3 and +5 volt rails), the Leadex III always shuts down in an emergency to protect valuable hardware (and itself) from damage. Super Flower is understandably confident enough to stand behind a seven-year manufacturer’s warranty on all Leadex III series models.
